View Full Version : "Messiah" "The One" how it all started and why the right wont let it go

We have heard it on these forums, on TV, in print and on the radio numerous times. When critics want to say something negative about President Obama the following terms are generally used, "Messiah" and "The One". But where did it all start, why are critics of Obama so enthralled by the use of these words and who perpetuated the use of these terms so predominately that it resonates within a certain political party?

“The One”
Oprah Winfrey made the comment "I am here to tell you, Iowa, he is the one!". Now, one can take her comments one of two ways; we can infer that she meant “He is the one we/I am going to vote for” or “He is our savior”. Unfortunately many people on the conservative side to gain traction shortened up the phrase Oprah made to be just “The One”. It helped paint Obama himself and supporters of Obama in a different light, to say those who approve of Obama are nothing more than members of a cult. It was intended to pit anyone who was on the fence on who they might vote for into thinking that if they were to Vote for Obama they would be members of that cult.

“Messiah”
National Review editor Rich Lowry calls the worshipping of Obama "secular messianism." This came about because of Oprah’s comments and because Obama critics wanted to tell people that Obama will not create a paradise. It was further flamed by reports of “Obama Fans” fainting at his speeches after the idea of a “cult” arose. Obama gave speeches that many conservatives rephrased or highlighted to try and depict Obama as if he himself believed he was a Messiah. Every presidential campaign has run on the fundamental principle that “He” will give you the changes you want and that “He” is what is best for our country.

Fast forward to today and you see the words “Messiah” and “The One” thrown around so much but the only people who ever referred to Obama as any of these things has been the Republican Party. One would think hordes of people were lined in the streets with signs saying “The Messiah has arrived” or “Praise Obama”; yet even the most enthusiastic “fans” never said such things. Even now it still stands that if you agree or voted for Obama that you consider him to be the Messiah or The One no matter what your reasons for casting that vote were for.

Just thought some on this board might be wondering why “The Messiah” and “The One” are thrown around so much from conservatives when referring to Obama.

Sorry there bucko but you got a lot more googling to go before you get all the references that have been made by and about the Messiah Obama before you have answered the "why" that reference is even made.

You go a lot more googling, best get to it.

A yes the remark about falling oceans as if he was moses..wait a second he was talking about Global Warming. I guess he could have just said "This will be the time when we put a stop to global warming" but then he probably would have had the same critisism because so many here believe Global Warming is a hoax and only God can control it he must believe he is GOD! This was one of those "speeches" I made reference too. I included that sentance here for your understanding. Obama gave speeches that many conservatives rephrased or highlighted to try and depict Obama as if he himself believed he was a Messiah.

Do I need to post quotes about people calling George W. Bush a gift from God to destroy our enemy? Do I need to post quotes of people saying Bush was elected because god wanted him to end abortion? Do you really? Because I can show you just as many people refferring to Ex-Pres Bush the same way; yet nobody called him a Messiah.

Actually I'm not sure what this post is supposed to tell me other then this point has been raised before and no other credible reasons have been justified for the abundant usage of "Messiah" and "The One". Conservitives still use the same talking points trying to depict themselves as witty by using these phrases.

But please don't let that stop you from trying to prove why people use those phrases, I'm eagerly awaiting a response that proves me wrong.

Nice attempt to rewrite history......but the 'Messiah' bit you are wrong about.

The SOURCE is asinine statements like THESE from prominent Obama SUPPORTERS! But spin on genius. ;)

“I cried all night. I’m going to be crying for the next four years.......What Barack Obama has accomplished is the single most extraordinary event that has occurred in the 232 years of the nation’s political history. ... The event itself is so extraordinary that another chapter could be added to the Bible to chronicle its
significance.” -Rep: Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.)

Oh, and you'll LOVE this one!

"You are the instruments that God is gonna use to bring about universal change, and that is why Barack has captured the youth. And he has involved young people in a political process that they didn’t care anything about. That’s a sign. When the Messiah speaks, the youth will hear, and the Messiah is absolutely speaking." -Louis Farrakhan

Put that in your pipe and smoke it and crawl back in to the hole you crawled out of. ;

You really shouldn't have, now I have to play this game too :wall:

One former Reagan/Bush official says, “Just in the past few months. I think a light has gone off for people who’ve spent time up close to Bush: that this instinct he’s always talking about is this sort of weird, Messianic idea of what he thinks God has told him to do.”

"He is one of those men God and fate somehow lead to the fore in times of challenge," said George Pataki

"I feel like God wants me to run for President. I can't explain it, but I sense my country is going to need me. Something is going to happen... I know it won't be easy on me or my family, but God wants me to do it."
--George W. Bush commenting to Texas evangelist James Robinson in the run-up to his presidential campaign"

"Why is this man in the White House? The majority of America did not vote for him. He's in the White House because God put him there for a time such as this." Said Gen. William "Jerry" Boykin

Tim Goeglein as saying, "I think President Bush is God's man at this hour, and I say this with a great sense of humility."

I trust God speaks through me. Without that, I couldn't do my job.
Statement made during campaign visit to Amish community, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Jul. 9, 2004

Need I go on?

The left wasn't calling Bush the "Messiah" or "The One" even though GWB continued to make references to the bible as if he WAS an instrument of god. Yet its not just GWB who has had people make comments about being president because of it being Gods will!

Face it guys, what has been said about Obama or even what Obama has said is nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to presidents. In comparison of the quotes ex-pres Bush has said I think Obama is pretty tame on the whole "Messiah" complex.

I expect a lot of crickets!

However they first started, the phrases really do capture the way Obama's cult followers seem to view him. He can do no wrong in their eyes. They get tingles up their legs. People pass out hearing him speak. People think they're going to miraculously receive money and benefits because of him.

If you want to do something constructive, instead of quibbling over how buzz words and phrases got started, debunk the myth that Obama is somehow different or better than any other power grabbing politician.

It sounds like Farrakhan was having a bad day.
As a Muslim, he doesn't believe in a Messiah.

Let's see how that works out:

Farrakhan thinks messiahs are false.
He labels Obama as a messiah.
Ergo, he thinks Obama is false.

Second, ever hear Achmanutjob of Iran talk about the 12th Imam? Pretty Messianic to most.

It's the 12th Imam and that belief is held only by Shiite Islam, which Farrakhan does not embrace.

You may have been closer than you think.
There is a branch of Shiite that recognizes the 14th Imam rather than the 12th.
You gave an average and covered them both.:)

Google "george bush messianic complex" if you don't believe me. Exactly....

And yet not one single example of any Bush supporter claiming Bush was anything like a messiah.....

.....while I provided our friend with TWO examples of FAMOUS Obama supporters flat out DECLARING Obama the Messiah.

.....and his knee jerk reaction is, 'Oh yeah, well Bush'.....after which he provides numerous examples that don't remotely support his thesis.....SHOCK! :))
