U.S. Muslims to Offer Qurans to 100,000 American Leaders
WASHINGTON (Map) - Major educational initiative prompted by President's quoting of Islam's revealed text.

WASHINGTON, June 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Tuesday, June 30, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) will hold a news conference in Washington, D.C., to announce the launch of a major campaign to distribute free copies of the Quran, Islam's revealed text, to 100,000 local, state and national leaders.

WHAT: CAIR News Conference to Announce Launch of "Share the Quran" Campaign

WHEN: Tuesday, June 30, 11 a.m.

WHERE: CAIR National Headquarters, 453 New Jersey Ave., S.E., Washington, D.C.

CONTACT: CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper, 202-488-8787, 202-744-7726, E-Mail: ihooper@cair.com

CAIR's "Share the Quran" educational campaign was prompted by President Obama's recent address to Muslims worldwide in which he quoted from that holy text.

In the multi-year initiative, American Muslims will sponsor Qurans for distribution to governors, state attorneys general, educators, law enforcement officials, state and national legislators, local elected and public officials, media professionals, and other local or national leaders who shape public opinion or determine policy.

"Through this ground-breaking outreach initiative, we hope not only to educate policy-makers and opinion leaders about Islam, but also to provide an opportunity for American Muslims to reach out to their fellow citizens of other faiths," said CAIR Board Chairman State Sen. Larry Shaw (NC).

The "Share the Quran" initiative is an outgrowth of CAIR's successful "Explore the Quran" campaign and is part of the celebration of the Washington-based council's 15th anniversary. CAIR was founded in June of 1994.

Gabby and Czzzaar,

Unfortunately we are destined to see the free world events to a clash of civilization against the back drop of 1,400 years of inconceivable yet true events and conflicts.

One must learn about the author of the Qur'an, Muhammad, who had 15 wives, fought in scores of raids and battles, even cutting off the heads of 700 Jews. One must study the history of the caliphate. Remember that within one hundred years of his death, his followers conquered North Africa, the Holy Land, Persia, Spain - from the Indian Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean.

Besides being a pedophile and caravan raider, Muhammad was a brilliant strategian who united the Arab Peninsula in less than 22 years.

I fear that the free world has lost its desire to remain free.

Islam has no place in a world which recognizes freedom of religion as a fundamental right of people.

In Islam, apostasy (choice) is punishable by death. In Islam, Infidels (those who exercise freedom of religion) are to be converted or killed.

We have recently seen in Iran the disrespect for human freedoms that an Islamic State has. They shut down the Internet, jammed cell phone services and allowed no talk of the sham "election" which propped up the dictator of that terrorist State.

Islam and liberty cannot coexist. Islam hates liberty and has no respect for the rights of the people. Such a barbaric way of life will never be accepted in the free world.

Islam has emerged as the nation's fastest growing religion, making it, says DU religious studies Associate Professor Liyakat Takim, "a very American phenomenon."

So American, in fact, that in many U.S. communities the mosque is almost as much a part of the cityscape as the church and temple. "For a long time, Islam has been a foreign phenomenon-located somewhere in the Middle East or the Far East. We talk about Islam and the West, but we should be talking about Islam in the West," Takim says, adding that "Muslims are pumping gas; they are serving combos at McDonald's." Islam has no place in a world that allows for the freedom to practice it? Sounds kind of contradictory.

In Islam, apostasy (choice) is punishable by death. In Islam, Infidels (those who exercise freedom of religion) are to be converted or killed.

On apostasy, Quran 3:20 states: But if they dispute with you, say: I have submitted myself entirely to Allah and (so) every one who follows me; and say to those who have been given the Book and the unlearned people: Do you submit yourselves? So if they submit then indeed they follow the right way; and if they turn back, then upon you is only the delivery of the message and Allah sees the servants.

On the freedom of religion, Quran 2:256 says: Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things.

We have recently seen in Iran the disrespect for human freedoms that an Islamic State has. They shut down the Internet, jammed cell phone services and allowed no talk of the sham "election" which propped up the dictator of that terrorist State.

We've also seen a strong opposition to the tyrannies they face by Iran's population, which is 98% Islamic.

We could talk about a certain caravan raider who claimed he received a certain book from a certain entity and kept abrogating the darn thing to suit his fancy (or is the word fantasy).

Then we could discuss 1400 years of history that certain radical elements have waged against everyone who did not submit to their beliefs.

True there does seem to moderates who would like to change Islam from within, but, I am not sure how much luck they will have with the mullahs, radical imams, and moon worshiping al Qaeda operatives and their affliates...

We should not condemn a whole religion for the sins of their radical elements. I fear that the current trend to side with the west's apologist and appeasing notions to promote ..............

The god that the caravan raider tailored his religion after is a copy of the G-d of Abraham. One could say that allah and G-d are one in the same. It appears to me that allah is an interpretation (from the caravan raider) of G-d. He took all the stories and beliefs of the three major religions (and successful cultures of the day) that surrounded the Arabian Peninsula: Christianity, Judaism, and Zoroastrianism and mixed and matched those ideologies into his form of Muhammadanism.

The caravan raider was a man beyond his times who united the Arabian Peninsula under the banner of one Muhammadanism. After his demise, the region was faced with intrigue and power struggles within Muhammadanism until Sunni and Shia developed along separate lines of Islam. They are still at war with each other and with the outside world.

Peace be with you brother J.....

Here is an interesting article that should be looked into.
Will the New York City school system be compelled to commemorate Islam on Sept. 11?
It has been widely reported the New York City Council passed a resolution Tuesday recommending the school system shut down to commemorate two of the most important Muslim holidays (http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=102842#), however the reports did not note the holidays fall on Sept. 11 in some years.
The council vote, which was non-binding, is at odds with the opinion (http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=102842#)of Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who has said he is opposed to adding any more days off to the school calendar. Bloomberg, however, recently relinquished control of the school system to a newly appointed board of education, which could approve the holiday plan.
The Islamic holidays being considered for commemoration are Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr. The former commemorates the Islamic belief Abraham was willing to sacrifice Ishmail. The latter marks the end of the Islamic fast period of Ramadan. Jewish and Christian tradition relates Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son Isaac, not Ishmail.

We could talk about a certain caravan raider who claimed he received a certain book from a certain entity and kept abrogating the darn thing to suit his fancy (or is the word fantasy).

Sounds much like Christianity and Judaism, except Christianity didn't spread violently for many years after it's invention.

Then we could discuss 1400 years of history that certain radical elements have waged against everyone who did not submit to their beliefs.

True, they were often at war for a long period of time, but not because people didn't submit to Islam. They went to war for same reason every other culture went to war during that time frame. They wanted power.

And the "convert or die" passage of the Quran isn't reasoning to go to war, it is an option for those taken prisoner after making war on the Muslims rather than facing punishment.

True there does seem to moderates who would like to change Islam from within, but, I am not sure how much luck they will have with the mullahs, radical imams, and moon worshiping al Qaeda operatives and their affliates...

There's always hope. We've seen in Iran that there is a strong will by many to change the shape of the Islamic world to meet modern expectations of a civilized society.

My poll is: Will Islam prevail in America and the West? not, Is there a Islamic Community in America. not sure where you came up with that.

It is closer than you think, Go Navy.... I am not in my mothers basement hammering at a computer. We might want to discuss Islam, Muhammadanism, and apology and appeasement of the west.

At least 15 others got the poll, and an untold many did not want to vote. :))

Keep any comments directed directly at me to yourself. We do not attack the forum members in this, but, can certainly comment on the notion, ideas, and comments. My postings are a little deeper than your skimming the surface. I have been here for quite some time and would be very comfortable debating you on (radical) Islam.

"A Thank You, and a Koran, for Obama," by Andrea Fuller for the New York Times (http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/06/30/a-thank-you-and-a-koran-for-obama/), June 30 :
President Obama will soon receive a thank-you gift for his speech to the Muslim world in Cairo. Inspired by the address, in which Mr. Obama quoted the Koran, the Council on American-Islamic Relations plans to distribute 100,000 copies of the Koran to national, state and local leaders. The council’s national executive director, Nihad Awad, said at a news conference in Washington today that the speech, in which Mr. Obama called for the end to mutual suspicion between Americans and Muslims, was “inspiring” and “historic.”
The council is soliciting donations to pay for the books; at the national convention of the Islamic Society of North America on July 5, the name of one donor will be chosen as sponsor of the Koran that will be sent to Mr. Obama.
In a public opinion survey done by the council, almost 60 percent of Americans said they were “not very knowledgeable” or “not at all knowledgeable” about Islam. Mr. Awad said that the organization hopes to educate Americans about Islam to combat prejudice.

This gives me a warm and tingly feeling up and down my leg. :))

That is the Catch 22... Islamic "experts" tell us that if you are reading the Qur'an in any other language than Arabic, you are not really reading the Qur'an. When it says (in effect) in English "death to all infidels" we are getting an incorrect interpretation of what it really says. Islam is not really like that... Islam is really a very peaceful, tolerant religion.
