This week, a radio legend died. Irv Homer - "Evil Irv" as he was known in the Philly & Philly area market - was a popular talk show host for a quarter century. A former bartender, Homer was known for his straight talk, his curmudgeonly character and his tireless work for the Sunshine Foundation.
I was listening to a Philadelphia station yesterday and the host remarked that "The Evil One" was a true radio personality, the sort you don't see anymore. He observed that back in the day, "personality" was the significant word in the phrase "radio personality" and that today radio hosts are defined more by ideology than personality. Interesting point.
