On the way home a local radio station aired a comercial thanking our statel reps for voting down a NEW FEDERAL TAX on music played by radio stations. I had not heard of this, but apparently it was a big deal in the radio industry.

The biggest news, our rep, Dem Brad Miller, voted against the bill. Is this a faint sign of hope? Any additional info would be appreciated.

This issue got my interest for two reasons. One our Dem rep voted against it. Two, this tax had not come up on this board, or the news, anyhwere I visit. A new proposed federal Obama tax. How many more proposed taxes are there out there we don't know about? And Libs, is this what you voted for? This could be a redistribution, taking from business to give to the people. But do you not see a trend? The station I listened too stated the tax would have caused an increase in costs that would lead to jobs being lost, or even in this economy, with ad revenues down, causing some stations to close.

Has any lib out there not heard of the goose and the golden egg?

Cheers,

Got off my duff and googled. noperformancetax.org. This was not so much a federal tax, although fed would collect it, as it was a music industry infighting for $ thing. Site is a quick read, interesting if you get a moment.

It was more like a congressionally mandated fee on radio stations to pay record labels and recording artist for the music played. Which is ridiculous, because they're promoting the music and the artists.

Now, if congress were promised a cut of it, I'm sure it would have passed. ;)

Big music labels are losing money because they have horrible artists without any talent. They want the Government to step in and give them money by taxing music played on radio stations.
1, Radio stations give free advertisement when they play the songs.
2. Radio stations already have contracts and pay fees to play the songs.
3. Radio stations, like the consumer, pay a tax when they purchase the albums.
4. Most of these big record labels are located in foreign countries.
5. I am happy to see the tax fail.
