12 if you count peter cushing in that horrible movie from the 80's......
there have been a number of episodes where the doctors have united to face an evil.. usually the master.....
there was the "two doctors" the "three doctors" and the "five doctors" although tom paker refused to be part of it and they had him stuck in limbo for the who story......

oh i agree. i hadn't ever watched doctor who and really i wasn't aware of it until i happened to catch 'the impossible planet' and 'the satan pit' on scifi one day.
i was hooked. on my first watching i wasn't that big a fan of eccleston, but when i watch those first series episodes again i find myself liking him more and more.
matt smith certainly has some big shoes to fill - as does stephen moffat. russell t. davies has left the show also, but given Moffat's track record (he was the force behind the spectacular comedy 'Coupling' and has written some of the best Who stories - 'the empty child/the doctor dances' 'the girl in the fireplace' 'blink' and 'silence in the library/forest of the dead' i don't worry that much about the future of the writing and producing.

How on earth are they going to fit that many Doctors into a 15 minute episode?

I guess when you have 11 Time Lords it's pretty easy.

Pertwee and Baker were the only two I had ever watched until Eccleston and Tennant.
Of the four it would be most favorite to least, Eccleston, Tennant, Baker, Pertwee.
I don't know about the next one?
Don't like that head shot at the Wiki link, makes him look like an ass.
Hope looks are deceiving.

I could care less who plays Who... it is his sidekick who interests me. ;)
Rather liked Billy Piper and her successor Freema Agyeman. Both quite hot in their own way.

Way, way back, they had an episode with first 5...somebody subbed for the first Dr. who was deceased and Tom Baker only did a cameo. But that was a 2 hour episode. 15 minutes is probably gonna suck.

1. William Hartnell (also played by Peter Cushing and Richard Hurndall, if you consider Peter Cushing to be "just a movie version of the first Doctor")
2. Patrick Troughton
3. Jon Pertwee
4. Tom Baker
5. Peter Davison
6. Colin Baker
7. Patrick Kent-Smith (a.k.a. "Sylvester McCoy")
8. Paul McGann
9. Christopher Eccleston (although some consider him to be "the same doctor" as Paul McGann, since there was no regen sequence)
10. David Tennant
11. Matt Smith (the actor, not "that annoying scouse that comes on after the Archers")
although you could throw in
8.5 Rowan Atkinson ("The Curse of the Fatal Death")
I *still* say he'd have been a good choice as #11 as well.
