Strong earthquake jolts urban centers of Alaska
By RACHEL D'ORO – 2 hours ago

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A strong earthquake has jolted urban areas of Alaska, sending people diving under desks and huddling in doorways. The U.S. Geological Survey said an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.7 struck near the town of Willow at 11:28 a.m. Monday.

The epicenter was 58 miles from the state's largest city, Anchorage, where the rumbled continued for several moments.

The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center reported the magnitude at a slightly weaker 5.3 and said no tsunami will be generated.

There are no immediate reports of damage or injury, but the shaking was felt over a wide swatch of southcentral Alaska."

Hope everyone there near Willow, the epicenter -- and the rest of Alaska is OK.

a 5.8 in Alaska... Thats not big by Alaska standards. The great quake of 64 was over 9 and I belive they had one in the mid 7's a few years ago

I hope that no one was injured.
Property damage can be repaired.
People cannot be replaced.

Can his writers pass up the Words "Earthquake".... "Alaska"...and "Willow" in a news story??

Now revised to magnitude 5.4... That is not big and not uncommon for Alaska; there was another in the Aueutians of 5.6 half an hour later and nobody blinked an eye. There have been 66 recorded earthquakes in Alaska just in the last 48 hours...

I'd be taking down the breakables. If these are "pre shocks" then the big one could be a whopper.

How can this be possible though, wasn't Obama going to heal the planet as soon as he took office and prevent such tragedies in the future?

Wow. Earthquakes in Alaska are now "political news" for liberals? Talk about an obsession.
