This one I read today had me laughing.

MSNBC:

"BROOKSVILLE, Fla. - A Florida city is cleaning up with a new dress code that requires city workers to wear underwear and use deodorant.

The city council in Brooksville north of Tampa recently approved a dress code that instructs employees to observe "strict personal hygiene."

It also prohibits exposed underwear, clothing with foul language, "sexually provocative" clothes and piercings anywhere except the ears.

The city council approved the dress code 4-1 as part of a wider effort to update existing policies and ordinances."

- Come on folks, let's not have to have a city government have to tell us that we have to use deodorant and how to dress appropriately. What on earth is wrong with people?

Good Lord.

One councilmember thought it was alright to not have to use deodorant, or wear underwear? :))

Funny and about time. I'd bet my left toe that there aren't any minorities working there... Or at least not many. You can't do that if you work minorties.

I think it says do not wear exposed underwear.

No way to check to see if people have unexposed underwear on.

I always wore underwear and deodorant. So did my co-workers.

Some people just have no manners, class or decent hygiene.

The New York City subways can be pretty brutal especially in the summer - packed in like sardines in an underground subway system which very often doesn't even have air conditioning.

When laborers aren't wearing underwear and they're bending over you certainly can tell so.

And they list ' the observable lack of undergarments and exposed undergarments' as ' unacceptable attire'. The city council has approved the dress code 4-1.

However, Mayor Joe Bernadini opposed the rules, saying the underwear edict 'takes away freedom of choice'.

Employees who turn up to work ' commando' will be sent home and will not receive any pay for the time they are away.

No commando.

Aint that just plain unreal. It used to be if you didn't wear underwear or deodorant, you were a freak.

You should be fine going commando if you can figure out the whole wearing a belt thing.

I was in management for nearly 30 years and now own my own business.

It's pathetic what an awfully lot of people think is appropriate for interview situations and the work place and it included the entire scope of wage scales I would hire for from entry level to professional positions.

Questionable hygiene, terrible language skills, inappropriate dress, it never ceased to amaze me how folks behaved.

Several years ago I even asked one prospective employee if his mother saw him leave the house dressed that way. I had no idea if he lived at home or not, I was trying to make a point that went right over his head.

I believe it comes back to basic poor parenting when these folks were raised and a lack of respect for themselves as well as a prospective employer.

It was certainly a minority of the people I have worked but occurred at least once, every time I had a opening I was hiring for and at least annually with existing staff trying to push the limits of civility.

Good Lord.

You should read the dress code at the last hospital I worked at (haven't read this one myself, probably just as bad). You realize of course that if they're addressing it, someone has done it.

Don't see how that would be comfortable in the least.

Maybe for men it's different.

wth?

Governments have paid thru the nose many times for even barely eluding to a minority doing anything wrong, that's what. Surely even the most liberal person in the world remembers and agrees with those days. LOL!

=Stardust,

I have lived in central Florida for more than half my life (many years) and have never seen any city (gov.) worker dress inappropriately or smell bad. But all it takes is one person to make it necessary for stricter rules to be put in place. I imagine they can't just tell that one person because 1) that person might feel picked on or insulted. 2) might feel it's unfair discrimination

When you work for a city over 20 years (especially in management) you observe and you learn.

With my last interview, I was told I would be "working" the floor and shadowing one of the staff nurses for a shift. So when I showed up, the manager asked me "why are you in uniform?"

Back in 1976 my personnel manager quit and while I was handling the job the employee committee approched me with a request. There was a couple working in the plant who needed some instruction in "personal hygiene". They had gotten together a "care" package for them and wanted me to give it to them.

This was during the summer when the temperture in the plant averaged 90 degrees during the day.

Turns out they took a bath once a week, Saturday prior to going out dancing. They had no idea what deodorant was used for. And they were using their bath tub as a clothes hamper for their dirty clothes. Very sad for 28 year old young people.
