PETA Wishes Obama Hadn't Swatted That Fly
Thursday, June 18, 2009

WASHINGTON — The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants the flyswatter in chief to try taking a more humane attitude the next time he's bedeviled by a fly in the White House.

PETA is sending President Barack Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a device that allows users to trap a house fly and then release it outside.

"We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals," PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said Wednesday. "We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals."

I seem to be caight between a rock and a hard place. Normally whenever PETA does or says something I try my best to do the opposite. Unfortunately for me I can';t do theopposite because it'll appear that I support Obama!!!

What to do, what to do?

So, I guess if a PETA member gets a tick, they just let the poor, defenseless animal drink till he's satisfied?

I believe in humane treatment of animals, but PETA goes too far. After all, if a fly is bothering you, it deserves a good whack!

That's the problem with PETA. They've gone to the extreme for what is really a good thing. We should treat animals as humanely as possible, but we don't need to go too far either.

And in the end, have only served to hurt their cause.

Did you hear people clapping for the mutt because he smacked a fly???? Sheesh. They will applaud him for anything. I guess now we are supposed to see how tough the guy his because he swatted a fly. I would imagine he has a lot of experience at that. Remember, Michele told the reporter how bad the mutt smells, so apparently flies hover around him quit a bit. Yuck.

And in the end, have only served to hurt their cause.Yep. It happens to many once good organizations.

I used to give to Amnesty International but they have gone into politics far too much and they seem to want a "New World Order / One World" thing that I cannot get behind.

World Wildlife Fund & Greenpeace are a bunch of hippies now.

I give to the ASPCA. They actually do good work.

PETA makes me want to spit-roast Ingrid Newkirk. ;)

The right is just as hypocritical as the left. If George Bush had swatted the fly, the Right would be all 'Heck yeh look at Bush go, he won't even take crap from a fly!' and the left would be mocking him. So typical.

Yeh, but we haven't heard anything from PETA in a while and this is just another excuse to get their name out there again and have people talk about them. They like the name recognition and the 'street talk' concerning this, even if everyone is just making fun of them.

I remember how in the early eighties I was trying to be humane to a wasp (could have been a bee, I'm no naturalist), it was stuck in the back of a car buzzing itself against the back window...

So I reached in with a cloth over my hand to try and set it free, the bastard stung me through the cloth so the moral of the story is never help anyone EVER...:))....

So good for you Obama, Bush showed impressive reflexes when that shoe was coming at him too.......;).......

What

The

****?I take it you all hadn't heard of this one

People don't seem to like fish. They're slithery and slimy, and they have eyes on either side of their pointy little heads—which is weird, to say the least. Plus, the small ones nibble at your feet when you're swimming, and the big ones—well, the big ones will bite your face off if Jaws is anything to go by.

Of course, if you look at it another way, what all this really means is that fish need to fire their PR guy—stat. Whoever was in charge of creating a positive image for fish needs to go right back to working on the Britney Spears account and leave our scaly little friends alone. You've done enough damage, buddy. We've got it from here. And we're going to start by retiring the old name for good. When your name can also be used as a verb that means driving a hook through your head, it's time for a serious image makeover. And who could possibly want to put a hook through a sea kitten?

Ask the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to stop promoting sea kitten hunting.

Like I said, they've become a parody of themselves.

It is amazing. I saw a commercial for pet adoption the other day with Sarah McLaughlin and I have to say I was getting a bit misty. It is terrible that animals are abused when all they want is to be loved.

That being said PETA, shut the **** up, I found a roach nest about 30 yards away from my house and I hit it with holy hell creating what could only be described as a roachacaust. I don't lose a bit of sleep.

Those commercials for the ASPCA make me cry every time. I can't imagine treating an animal the way some people do. A friend of mine is involved in the Saddlebred rescue organization, which basically takes abused and neglected Saddlebred horses and gives them another shot at life. She's made several show horses out of them, too. The ones that aren't quite show horse material are used as lesson horses, teaching kids how to ride.
