It was foolish to use duct tape... duct tape can cause severe skin irritation and even remove skin when its pulled off.

But I'm betting that there is more to the story - there could have been a number of factors contributing to the teacher being fired, the duct tape was just the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak. She may have already been on precarious ground. Usually people who exercise poor judgment do so frequently and this may not have been the first time.

You have to Touch em or Beat em to Lose a Teaching Job...

Or, as you say, Repeatedly do VERY Stupid things...

Even then, the Union is like the Catholic Church moving Teachers around.

Partially obstructing a child's airway (which could very well proceed to complete obstruction) is stupidity on a level far higher than mere 'poor judgement'.

And yes, we got Permission from the Pediatrician to Use it for his "Allergies", but won't any longer cause he was Trying to Crawl out of his Skin when on it.

MeThinks it's the Weather here in D-Town that was Bothering him...

His Eye Damn near Swelled Shut over the Weekend... Sad.

It said something in the video about it having to do with a story they read earlier. I wonder what story that would have been. She didn't do this bacause the kids were talking or for punishment, so I would like to hear the whole story before I judge anyone here, from the teacher to the parents and the administration.

It's what's in OTC sleep meds, but has the opposite effect on some. Myself included.

Well, duct-taping kids' mouths shut is stupid (and dangerous) regardless of the reason why.

Stupid? Yes. Worth firing on the spot? I'll wait to say until I have more information. (Rememeber people, I am an anti-public school nut who homeschools, and I am still willing to give the bad, bad, public school teacher the benefit of the doubt ;) )

Stupid and dangerous. Complete lack of judgement. I'd say that's grounds for termination.

She said the 23 first-grade students had been well-behaved and, near the end of the day, she gave each a two-inch square piece of duct tape because they wanted to play with them. She said rolls of the tape in red, yellow, blue and green are used for different classroom projects.

“They wanted to play with it. Many of them wrapped it around their fingers. Some put it over their mouth, but they were playing with it.

“It was not a disciplinary action,” she said. “I allowed the kids to take the tape home. I’m not sure how things got blown out of proportion.”

Does it show a level of stupidity to no longer be able to trust her judgement in caring of children.

I hope you watch your children 24/7/365 because they probably will, and probably have done, stupider stuff than this when you aren't looking.
