69 Firebird destroyed by firetruck (http://www.denverpost.com/ci_12565202)

Driving home, fighting off the shock, Bill Vickery tried to imagine what his sweet 1969 Pontiac Firebird would look like with a 48,000-pound firetruck sitting on top of it.
Then he pulled into the driveway next to his mountainside home outside Evergreen, and it looked just about exactly as he imagined it would.
Bent. Twisted. Crumpled.

Vickery was 16, a student at Golden High School, when he bought the Firebird from its original owner. It was 1980, and near as he can recall, he paid about $1,200 for the ride...

He spent what he now estimates to be somewhere between $30,000 and $40,000 restoring it...

Arrruuuuuugggggggghhhhhhhhh. :((:((:((:(( I almost wanted to cry for him.

Wow. That sucks. It could have been worse, thankfully no one got hurt. But that really really sucks.

Glad the fireman is okay.

Hope the fire department doesn't get petty when it comes to paying him.

If it is their insurance carrier that pays out they might just use blue book value without considering the restoration value.

It would not be the first time.

If the car had not been officially appraised they just might try it.

I think at that point he would have considered it "better" had he been seated behind the wheel of the Firebird at the time.

Yeah, they can and will do that at times. ..sigh.. I too hope it doesn't happen.

Wonder how the whole possibly charging the fireman thing is gonna work out? The way the article is written it looks like he tried to say the pavement gave way, but they are saying no, evidence shows you pulled over to far and went over.

The 1969 Trans Am I bought was such a blessing for my wife as long as she drove it to 1977. I sure wish I'd kept it.
