I was just watching Today and they had a segment on in regards to a group of 7 guys who started a burger club. They even have a website dedicated to ranking of establishments and how they rank in regards to the burgers they serve. If you're a guy or gal who really enjoys a great burger, check out this site.

www.burgerrankings.com

Personally I like my burger medium rare.

During the election, the October 2008 edition of Rolling Stone magazine, (the one with Obama on the cover for Rolling Stones first "magazine" sized edition*, similar in size as Newsweek), it had a section of an African tribes-people with some interesting pictures.

Men were surrounding one animal from their cattle so they could all partake in their "protein". What they do, is they cut the vein in the "cow/bull"'s (not sure what gender it was) neck and drink the blood right from there. Fresh, warm, and totally raw.

Now that's a real burger totally rare!

* as RS says, so they will have more pages for "political" discussion.

In our area, Ruby Tuesday's has one of the best around. Their classic burger is a hard one to beat.

My favorite fast-food burger is from Steak N Shake.

My favorite burger, otherwise, is a Bubba burger on the grill, dressed up with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, ketchup and mayo, or mustard/mayo.

I've never cared much for the hamburgers that came from the hamburger chains- even Fudrucker's (sp?) or any of the others.

The only two hamburgers I would drive out of my way for came from locally owned greasy spoons.
One place was the Clown Burger. They still had a car hop until they closed about 5 years ago.
The other one was Leta's Cafe. Leta was an old woman in her 80s. The building was about to fall down. She died and her sons closed the place.

These hamburgers had thin meat and greasy buns- lots of pickles, shredded lettuce and a slice of tomato and grilled onion.

Sarge, I think you'll appreciate this story.

Back in the early 80s, I bet on football every weekend- not much. Maybe $50 or $100.
There wasn't any internet then and to bet you had to know a bookie.

There was an old cafe on the edge of downtown that was nothing but a bookie joint. It was an old white frame house with roofing shingles spread out for a parking lot.

When you went in, you'd walk to the back room and he'd have his spreads up on a chalk board. He served breakfast and hamburgers and probably didn't have 5 actual food customers a day. The cafe was a front for his real business.

One Sunday the Fort Worth Star- Telegram named him the 2nd best hamburger in Fort Worth. It had an article raving about how good they were.

I went there the next Friday and the parking lot was full. I went in and there was people standing up waiting for him to cook hamburgers.

He was mad as hell. When he finally made it to the back room he told me that newspaper had ruined his business. He couldn't take bets for cooking "them damn hamburgers".

He swore that one of his competitors had put the paper up to running that article.

Burgers, schmurgers -- basically, burgers are burgers.

The only way to get delicious old-fashioned burgers nowadays is to make them in your chuck wagon yourself.

Get the cheapest, greasiest hamburger meat you can find. Leave the grease from it in the skillet (usually about half an inch deep). Let hamburger buns soak up the grease till they're soggy. Add mustard, onion and lots of salt; grab a Corona -- and presto! Bien provecho!

Fats killed my grandparents.
I've seen them both sop bacon grease out of the skillet with biscuits.
Cream gravy with every meal.

Their hearts and arteries finally had all they could take.

She was 94 and he was 96 when it caught up with them.

Twilight in Ethiopia

The lives of the Omo Valley's tribes are closely intertwined with their herds. Cattle, which are considered sacred, are slaughtered only for important ceremonies; the milk and cheese they provide are staples of the tribes' diet. Blood drunk directly from the veins of the cattle is a major source of protein.

My grandparents lived into their late 90's (grandfather 97, grandmother almost made it to 100).

They ate butter, eggs, whole milk, bacon, and everything your grandparents probably did. My grandfather could roll his own cigarettes with one hand and he smoked up until the day he died in his sleep.

Not all fat is bad.

It's the fake, hydrogenated fat (shortenings and transfats) that is making this Nation obese, dumb, and sick with various health issues.

Butter is better than margarine made with transfats. It's that simple.

I'm sorry for the passing of your grandparents. Like my grandparents, I bet they never saw as many obese children as there are today.

Two cents:

Trans fats are 'bad' but damn they can be yummy. Should be avoided most of the time.

Too much saturated fat is probably not a good idea for most of us, statistically speaking. Some of us beat the odds, but many succumb in this country.

Saying any of this on a thread dedicated to good burgers is blasphemy. A good burger thread should stay just about the glorious wonders of burgers. Any other nutrition thread can contain a debate of the above.

My favorite burgers (and I've said this before) are from http://www.barneyshamburgers.com/]

So you need to stop acting as though everyone has to eat a certain way to have a normal and healthy lifespan, that just isn't true.

Firstly: I never said anywhere in any thread, including here, that anyone has to eat a certain way. If you believe that, and claim it as you do, then POST proof of it immediately.

Secondly: This thread was created after my "FAT" thread, and you are the one who seems to think that because I do not eat what you do, I am judging others. When in all my posts, (on the FAT thread and here) I have never judged anyone for what they eat. We are free to choose whatever we eat. And I do not want any government regulations of anything in that nature. YOU are the one judging me by what I eat. Think about that one. So stop it.

Thirdly: When I posted (on this thread) "Awesome! An all you can eat lard buffet!" you had no idea what I was talking about, apparently, did you? You automatically assumed it had to do with burgers. Well it didn't. In fact, if you had bothered to click the link that showed the video, you would have seen that it had to do with the pure lard they use to fry their french fries at that Heart Attack restaurant--and it is an all you can eat buffet.

It was about fries fried in lard, not about beef.

Fourthly: You owe me an apology, for posting this about me:

"And evidently (she) has something against the rest of us enjoying our food."

I asked you for evidence for this claim, and you came up with this:

"Oh I don't know, how about your thread urging everyene to avoid anything with "bad" fat in it."

And if you bothered to do your homework before you posted any such "evidence" you would see that my "FAT" thread came before this burger one. You would also see, if you read (pronounced red), that I never, in any post judged anyone for what they eat, in fact I say it is their choice, because it is their life, it is a free country to do with your life as you so choose.

And last but not least, ketchup or mayo? http://forums.hannity.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

1. Beef ground fresh on-site
2. Buns baked fresh on-site
3. Fixins bar so you can dress it out exactly as you like

Fuddruckers here has a rather difficult time with Burgers Supreme (local joint) just a ways down the road. Fuddruckers stays open, but never busy, while Burgers Supreme is alway packed. Its probably not the top I've ever been too, but definitely one of the top three, gets really good reviews.

McDonald's is to good burgers what the AMC Gremlin is to good sports cars.

I respectfully disagree. The AMC Gremlin has a leg up on the McBurger. The Gremlin, and its ugly step-sister the Pacer, comes closer to resembling a fine gran-prix racer than the McBurger comes to a good burger.

However, since KC is from the UK, and if if all you have for a comparative reference is the really lousy burgers served in Euro Mickey Dees then you might think one is good if you came here. 'Course, it might also be good compared to most UK food. *ducks and runs for cover*

Stonescratcher is passionate about his/her lifestyle but what you say he/she said is simply not true, angelic.

Conway's Red Top burgers in Colorado Springs, CO were great.

This may make me un-American or something, but my favorite burger is a Gordo's Hawaiian (teriyaki and pineapple).

I don't know why but I almost never make one at home in that style.

I like to mix a package of onion soup mix with hamburger and fry that up.
