Anyone planning to watch the premiere of the second season of True Blood on HBO Sunday?

I haven't watched the first season, but I'm interested in watching this show. Probably because the subject of vampires on TV and movies seemed interesting to me.

It takes a few episodes for the show to take off but it gets very good. I only started watching it a couple weeks ago but I'm hooked.

I've been bitten, so to speak..and most certainly will be watching the second season. The book series that spawned this HBO phenom are not as good...story translates much better in a visual medium.

I thought the second season premier did not start until June 19?

I watched the first 4 or 5 episodes and I thought it was very good but I just had too much on to commit to it so I stopped watching...

There are just too many good programmes on TV these days to watch everything that's good....

My best guess is it's going to be yet another World Of Darkness rip off.

So true...I should get a TiVo! lol Bit expensive though.

I love House....Peter Laurie is fantastic! Son's of Anarchy...totally mesmerized with it...hubby and I keep trying to figure out where this town the series is set in...think we have pretty fairly narrowed down as to 'where' in California it is. True Blood of course...bit hookey...but I'm in love with it. Burn Notice...which imo isn't given enough credit; and is a great little series with a great cast.

I used to try and watch the CSI's...especially the one with 'Grisham " as a main character. Always found those fascinating. I lost track of them though..and now would have to play catch up with a season or two to start watching it again regularly.

More and more, hubby and I have either popped in a movie or watched the news shows. Pretty boring huh? lol. Last night we watched 100 Feet...with the main character played by the gal who was in X-Men as Dr. Grey.; and We watched the movie Benjamin Button...which was a long movie..but very good. I think it will sweep the Oscars as the 'Gump" of it's day.

What's World of Darkness? I'm not trying to be annoying...just wondered what it was. Novella? Book?, Anime? T.V. series? I've never heard of it....

I'm a huge fan of vampires. From Anne Rices Vamps to Laural K. Hamilton's Vamps. Fell in love with Vamps as a kid..watching Bella LuGosi got me hooked! lol.

It's an RPG setting that came out in the 90's. Pretty much EVERYTHING that's been done with vampire movies and TV shows in the last decade and a half I've seen done in a game LONG before it ever showed up on TV.

More specifically the WoD product Vampire the Masquerade is what I'm talking about, though things like Twilight ::twitch twitch:: and Underworld have what looks like to me borrowed from other WoD source books like Werewolf the Apocolypse.

You know that Hugh Laurie is British don't you? He was always primarily a comedy actor over here:

Yes...Hugh...don't know why I keep thinking Peter? Blew me away when I watched him in an interview and listened to his deeply British accent. To cool actually.

I haven't seen his comedy routine...will have to watch out for it.

Writing down those names and taking them with me next time I go the library. Love finding new authors who go vamp! lol. :))

Have you read the small series that is some what tongue in cheek about a gal who is 'turned'..and totally doesn't act like a vamp? She has a total shoe fetish..is very much a Cali girl...very cute series. Can't for the life of me remember the name of the gal who writes it though. My daughter brought it over for me to read. Light, fun read with a vamp twist....perfect for 'by the pool reading'.

My best guess is it's going to be yet another World Of Darkness rip off.

I've read all of Charlene Harris' novels and watched the entire first season of True Blood, and I used to play WoD quite a bit. While there are certain unavoidable similarities between the world of Sookie Stackhouse and the World of Darkness, they are actually quite different. The novels of Charlene Harris (and HBO's True Blood) paint a world that is nowhere near as bleak or oppressive as the WoD; in addition, Sookie's world has a certain lightheartedness and genuine sense of humor that the WoD completely lacks. Obviously, any two fictional worlds that features vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural creatures are going to cover some common ground, but as I said earlier, I think that's unavoidable.

As I’m sure you’re aware, if you’re looking for a true WoD rip-off job, the Underworld movies might as well have the White Wolf logo digitally inserted in the corner of every scene. :)

Actually it's a tabletop Roleplaying game, however they did put out a computer game several years ago. That will loosely give you the feel.

Yup, they absolutely sued Sony, citing something like 60 or more references to White Wolf IP in the movie. I was unable to find anything on the interwebs about the outcome of the lawsuit, but I heard through the grapevine (I work in the tabletop RPG industry) that WW received an out-of-court settlement. I have no idea if that's actually true or not, however.

I had heard that as well, but it wasn't from someone who worked for WW, it was another game designer, so I don't know how reliable that is. Honestly from what I've heard froma few freelancers WW has very little room to talk about "intellectual property rights" since there are rumors of them stealing ideas from freelancers and not paying them for it.

Great 1st episode for season 2.

Agreed. Although, this season looks to be a major departure form the storyline presented in the novels. Not that that's neccesarily a bad thing.

My favorite part was seeing Erik really lose his temper and do some very bad things to that poor redneck.

On a side note, Anna Paquin is not exactly uncomfortable with nudity, is she? Not that she has anything to be ashamed of.

It's odd, because for 90% of last season, it seemed that she was a prude..then BAM, she just struts it out there now..not that I'm complaining ;)

***Spoiler Alert***

She's a maenad (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maenad). However, her character in the novels is quite a bit different than her character in the show. In addition, her powers have little to nothing to do with the maenads from Greek mythology.

I think and believe she is the same actress that had played a Bajoran in Star Trek who went rogue in later episodes. The actress's first name could be Michelle.

Thanks for spelling it out for me...I didn't quiet catch it when they said it on the show Sunday. I kinda had a thought that the show was trying to cast her as some sort of minor God..like Pan. The mural on the wall in backyard scene two episodes back kinda gave me a clue where they were going with it. I still wasn't sure 'what' they were trying to portray her as. I'm sure they will kill her off by end of season two..or close to killing her. She's a decent actress...does the part proud....that is if they dont' make it to easy when they do finally off her.

This last episode is really getting the story line cooking. I'm hooked...can't wait to see if Jason grows a few brain cells and wises up. Does anyone think the pastors wife actually shot him (as in to kill him with a bullet)? or did she tase him or hit him with a tranq dart? She seems to have a few more brain cells then her husband..and she has her sites set on Jason...laughable as that whole story line is. I didn't see blood shoot out of Jason's chest...just him grabing his chest with a minor pained expression on his face...so I'm not sure if he is actually shot...or if she (the pastors wife) is trying to save him by incapacitating him.

Sookie...well seems Eric wants to control that bad. Bill better step up the whole big bad Vamp thing if he is gonna keep her to himself. I like Eric...better then Bill...I mean what's not to like? 1000 year old blond Viking warrior? come on! no contest. As for poor Bill, he is gonna have to kill his maker. She's nutso anyway...would do the whole story line good to get rid of her once and for all. I don't like the character...she's not intriguing enough for me to get into the 'why' of her. Not enough character development for me to sit up and take notice...so I believe Bill will kill her...and Eric..that sly old dog..will use it as a weapon to insert himself between Sookie and Bill. Now that could get interesting.

And..we have a new addition...Godric. This could be fun. Although I do hope they give a story line on how they actually got their hands on the oldest vampire on earth. Couldn't have been easy...and I hope they make it as hard as it should have been to capture such a creature. Any ideas?

She's dumb and shot Jason with a paintball gun (the same one that was in the mule when the pastor took Jason target shooting).

if it has a real story instead of the usual whiny effeminate goths or sex-freak all hot 20 year olds, i might give it a try. As of right now i cannot stand 90% of the crap that passes as vampire movies.

I would love to see a movie based off the Masquerade since people brought it up.

Not sure if you want to know, but so far, I've read 9 books of the series- the HBO version is good, but it's not true to the books like the Twilight Series. Still, the books are very enjoyable. The author is Charlaine Harris- her 10th book is coming out to Kindle this October. I can give you the "411" on Godric as far as the books go if you want.

The only similarity True Blood has to Twilight is that they both feature Vampires.

True Blood is very much a show exclusively for adults. The show is absolutely blood drenched, especially the second season; the vampires are all crazy in some way (No, not in the Malkavian sense); the sex is graphic and raunchy; the language is very explicit; and *gasp* the characters are realistic and believable. Not to mention having a top-notch story.

The Vampires from True Blood would beat the crap out of the Twilight Vampires for being whiney little *****es

Last night's episode of True Blood was great.

I can't believed that Eric tricked Sookie into sucking his blood and now knows her emotions. Do you think she will eventually sleep with him?

Only three more episodes left for this season.
