I just reinstall Windows Vista on my laptop and when I try to access the net via WI-FI
I get the message "This computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed and configued".
I have a wireless card installed on it when I bought the laptop.
Can anyone tell me what's up with my laptop?

I had to do that a few weeks ago. First make sure the switch is flipped to find a wireless network. Next, you need to run all of your updates. Since you had to reinstall your driver is probably outdated. Last, save up and by a machine without Vista. :)

I'm thinking my wireless card that was built in is messed me. I was having the same problem with the old software but didn't really made a big deal since my laptop was hooked up to a modem.
I proberly will have to buy me a wireless card adapter which I don't think they are too expensive.

You can have Vista run a diagnostics check, and also check for updates...or go to the manufacturer website and see if you can download the driver for the wireless card.

I just went through this with my Wifes Sony. This is a Vista thing....

Man Vista Sucks!

Anyhow, go into networks, all the way into it, find the 'enable wireless networking' hot button, check the dot, and RESTART the comp. Then go into device manager and open the wireless network card properties, enable it, RESTART the comp, that should do it.

You may or may not need to update the driver, how old your comp is makes that a yes or no.

I'm having a tough time deciding which is worse: Windows Me or Windows Vista.

Buying a Macintosh, contrary to some peoples popular belief, is not the answer to most windows pc problems.

Cav gave the correct steps needed to fix the problem. If Remus had done what you suggested, he would have spent 1K+ for a Macintosh computer, when he didn't need to.

Okay, now do what I said and go to the manufacturer website and see if you can download the driver for the wireless card.

You said that you reinstalled Windows Vista. I'm assuming that Vista was already on your computer which is why you did a "reinstall."

The first thing that you should do is check the device manager:
Click 'Start' right click 'My Computer' and select 'Properties'.
Click the 'Hardware' tab and then 'Device Manager' button.
Under 'Network Adapters' you should see your wireless card. If there is a yellow ? or ! or a red X there is a problem. If you click on the item you will see an error code in the 'Device Status' section.

If you see any of that, post it or message me and I'll help as best as I can.

What kind of laptop is it (brand and model)? We've had some repeated issues with specific models of dell laptops where a bios update makes the network card settings inaccessible from within the bios and still others that don't recognize the video card within the hardware manager until the bios is updated and still others that are just flaky and the cards in many of the d630's have had to be replaced.

That is easy. Vista. If you use any type of engineering software or platforms it simply crashes vista. Kills it dead.

Tell you what they did. They got all their twelve year old software designers and let them run wild with touchy feely stupid crap and simply over complicated it to the point that it is unusable for anything but browsing...

But It is 'Pretty'....

Buy a MAC.

Spending money on a gay computer will not fix his issue and it will just waste money.

You need to find the VISTA mainboard drivers, and install them. You should be able to find that on the Mfgs web site. There are other drivers for the mainboard that you most likekyi need to install as well. Video, Sound, etc. If the mfgr set it up right, they should ALL install from one package.

I't's not a "Vista" problem. If you would have done a re-format and install of XP you would have seen the same thing.

Yep, my new laptop the same, and after the crash that the wifes brand new dell, that has the stupid "designed for vista" sticker on it and came with vista installed, and you could not even get Microsoft Reader to work on it, I have come to the conclusion that it just plain sucks.
