Personally, I'm a huge history geek--love reading all things history. Anything from the Roman era to now is interesting to me. Currently, I'm reading about the Fall of the Roman Empire--very interesting. The interaction between the Romans and the Germanic tribes was a total culture shock. The Romans were very disciplined people, all cleanshaven, short haired folks, and were by the end of the Empire a Christian nation; whereas the Germans wore long, shoulder length or longer hair, sometimes dyed, long mustaches which went off their chin, and wore animal furs and boots. The Romans, who prided themselves on their strength and bravery, were terrified!

Ancient Christian and Jewish history is my favorite. I'm strictly an amateur! If I had the money, I'd go for a degree.

My favorites are Ancient Middle Eastern history (mostly India and Pakistan/Iraq) and England/the Americas from 1750's-1890's. I love the Victorian and Regency time periods. I love reading the old society pages from newspapers in America from the mid to late 1800's.

I rather enjoy reading about history. One of my favorites was a historical fiction written by Louis L'Amour, completely different from his usual tales of the American pioneer days. It was called The Walking Drum, and was set in the 12th century in Europe/Middle East. Very entertaining, and provides a nice insight into the times.

I've also enjoyed a lot of James A. Michener's historical novels.

Procopius?

Since my decision to convert, I've been going crazy on bookmarking all the relevant sites relating to early Christianity.

Yes, I have absolutely no social life outside of going to Mass and the occasional Reds game. :(

I like pretty much everything to do with history but most of the time I zoom in on U.S. military history and warfare. Right now I am fixated on the Korean war, as I have never been taught or had much exposure to that era.

I like History....but I prefer to watch documentaries on tv than read about it....my attention span is really short these days, and those books are crazy long.

I've always liked history.
I've recently been interested in the Civil War.
Civil War history evolves. Letters and documents are constantly being found that change perspectives.

That was an excellent book. It is a pity he passed away before he could write the sequel.

Several nations conquered by the Romans were less civilized than some of the Germanic tribes.
Don't forget how terrified the Romans were of the Huns who were described by the Romans as short. (the average Roman soldier was 5' tall)

Me, too, as well as Ancient Egypt, Sumerian and the like.

Currently, besides a book on George Washington that I'm reading, I am reading Antiquity, From the Birth of the Sumerian Civilizaiton to the Fall of the Roman Empire, by Norman F. Cantor.

I also have a book on Egyptian Mythologies.

Our Revolutionary War is an interesting topic to read about.
