Chastity Bono, daughter of Cher and the late Sonny Bono, is undergoing a sex change, Usmagazine.com has learned.

Chastity, who is transitioning from female to male, began the process earlier this year after turning 40 March 4.

"Yes, it's true -- Chaz, after many years of consideration, has made the courageous decision to honor his true identity," publicist Howard Bragman tells Usmagazine.com.

Damn. The expression "a man trapped in a woman's body" actually is meaningful every once in a while. I have no reason to doubt that this is the predicament Chastity has been in for many years.

Personally, I could not care less about Chastity's sexual identity. But if some transgender operations makes her a him, and ultimately makes him more comfortable in his own skin, I cannot fathom why anyone else should be bothered by it. Seems to me that her life has been fairly difficult in a pretty important way. I hope it all works out for her -- and ultimately for him.

I feel sorry for this girl. She probably never had a normal childhood, i.e, her mother being an international star, her parents divorcing, her father dying tragically, her mother having a string of bad relationships, including marrying Greg Allman, (the heroin addict) - with the marriage lasting a few days, etc.

Again, I feel sorry for her.

About a year ago, I got sucked into watching a Discovery channel special (fascinating stuff) on exactly this type of operation. It's not your normal 'plastic surgery' to be sure. The doctors who work in this field can and do amazing work. No 'organ donors' are needed. These doctors use the material that is naturally occurring in their patients. And yes...that completed transformation from male to female or female to male...everything works as it is supposed too. Truly amazing what medical science can do.

What really amazed and fascinated me was the extent of other conditions were either helped or medically cured by delving into this field of medicine. Burn patients, nerve and nerve related disorders, ophthalmology (specifically in the repair or replacement of the lenses in the eye) woman's medical studies in menopause and hormone replacement therapies, men's medical studies (especially the more current trend in understanding the 'Low-T' diagnosis, reproduction studies and repair and finally, the psych fields as it pertains to human sexuality. So many benefits have been yielded to the greater public by those few who have requested to alter or change their sexual identity.

As far as Chaz/Chasity...I don't know her personally...nor do I know her/his medical history. For all we know she/he has an X/Y chromosomal genetic Dna. Or double X with a Y characteristic. Believe it or not, there are many in our society who have double genetic markers in their Dna...leaving them to question their true sexual identity beyond their own body image. I can't imagine being who I know I am on on the inside....but instead of being female being stuck in a man's body...talk about confusing! I'd be spun! :drool:

I am no authority on the subject in question to be sure...but as to my understanding vis a vie this special I watched...yes, it has changed. I don't know how recently that has changed...but they..the medical doctors who work within this field, can and do complete sex reassignment surgery with fully functioning anatomical correction. Amazing stuff!

In figuring out how to 'create' fully functioning anatomical reassigned parts; medical doctors in this field have opened new avenues of dealing with the many issue's I have posted too. Especially woman's nerve issues. Did you know that a females nervous system has not been fully 'mapped' out as yet? A male anatomical map is usually used and simply placed over a female anatomical form...which, we now know is like placing a anatomical 'cat' diagram over a anatomical 'dog' diagram. With gender reassignment, it has opened that specific issue up and made large leaps in our understanding of the male and female form.

I'll give you that one Ski...Cher is very 'angular' in her looks..almost hard. Plastic surgery has done her no favors to be sure. Chasity always looked more like Sonny...and will now look more like her overtly angular Mother. :sick:

I love how the media already refers to "Chaz" as he. Chaz hasn't had the operation yet. SHE must live as a man for a year, SHE must take male hormones (she may not need these however; she's always looked and acted masculine). If she "passes" these 2 tests, then she must decide whether she wants to have a penis manufactured for her from her own body. She also will have to undergo a double mastectomy --- unless she wants to tape her breasts down flat for the rest of her life. These are grueling ... and irreversible. If she, for some reason, realizes she really IS a female, she'll be stuck as male.
Unlike homosexuality which (unfornately) was taken off the list of mental illness, gender dysforia, which is what this is, remains a mental illness, though no one wants to admit it. Many of these folks say they knew when they were very young children they were "born in the wrong body."
The one I feel sorriest for is Cher. When "Chaz" first acknowledged being a lesbian, she initially reacted the way most mothers wold react - tears, sorrow, fear for her daughter, etc. Then she put on her Politically Correct hat and said she didn't mind, she was proud of her daughter, etc. NOW what will Cher say about Chaz? She already experienced one severe loss in her life --- the loss of Sonny. Now she'll experience the loss of a daughter. Chastity will die and Chaz will be born. As I said, I feel sorry for Cher!
