His rating may go up - temporarily - like The Views did when Rosie was in meltdown mode. If this continues to drag out, people will want to keep up with what is happening, as most people like to watch the proverbial train wreck.
But...Letterman's "negatives" will undoubtedly go up, too.
Most Americans will have a problem with the crap he spouted.
Given that he tried to explain his "joke" shows that he is starting to go into defensive mode. Not a good sign for libs that defend him.

Naw... there was a problem during surgery and he suffered oxygen deprivation permanent brain damage. Before he was simply idiotic... now he is a total idiot.
