"Two passengers with names linked to Islamic terrorism were on the Air France flight which crashed with the loss of 228 lives, it has emerged.

French secret servicemen established the connection while working through the list of those who boarded the doomed Airbus in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 31 May.

Flight AF447 crashed in the mid-Atlantic en route to Paris during a violent storm.

While it is certain that there were computer malfunctions, terrorism has not been ruled out."

It will be interesting to see where this goes... was it homicide bombers who took the plane down? It would agree with the spanish pilot who was in the area at the time and said that he saw a flash/explosion in the distance than the fireball fell to the ocean.

This is what I suspected at the moment.

The names are not yet linked to actual terrorists or actual radical Muslims but are the same or similar to known radical Muslim names.

This is similar, at the moment, to a passenger getting pulled from boarding at the airport because their name matches a name on the "no fly list".

There might be something here or there might just be a major coincidence.

LINK (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20090610/twl-terror-names-linked-to-doomed-flight-3fd0ae9.html)

Soon after news of the fatal crash broke, agents working for the DGSE (Direction Générale de la Sécurité Extérieure), the French equivalent of MI6, were dispatched to Brazil.

It was there that they established that two names on the passenger list are also on highly classified documents listing the names of radical Muslims considered a threat to the French Republic.

A source working for the French security services told Paris weekly L'Express that the link was "highly significant".

Agents are now trying to establish dates of birth for the two dead passengers, and family connections.

There is a possibility that the name similarities are simply a "macabre coincidence", the source added, but the revelation is still being "taken very seriously".

That last line is the money shot of the article.

I read this about 20 m ago.

Due to server issues, I cannot start threads, but put it in one of mine as a post.

Request you move this to AAW.

The only thing I don't get is, if it was terror linked, why wouldn't the group they are associated with make an annoucement? They seem to always want to be out front saying it was their doing blah blah blah to get media coverage. It's been totally silent and it doesn't seem to fit a pattern of terrorist behavior.

I agree. Terrorism isn't very effective if the public doesn't know that it was a terrorist attack.

It isn't terror linked yet.

It is being fronted that way by the media.

Sky News sub headline: Two passengers with names linked to Islamic terrorism were on board the Air France flight which crashed with the loss of 228 lives, it has emerged.

So far it is pure coincidence that names of two passengers are similar to names on radical Muslim paperwork.

Near the very end of the Sky News article: There is a possibility that the name similarities are simply a "macabre coincidence", the source added, but the revelation is still being "taken very seriously".

But rightly so it is being pursued and investigated by security forces to verify one way or another who the two were and if they had any real connection to terrorism, except for similar names.

I'll wait for the black box to say other wise. I don't have enough proof to say it was terrorist. Planes can crash with out without terrorism and a group hasn't claimed it. Could be a new tactic, and one that makes more sense. Don't tell anyone what you're doing but just do it. Then the terror is not knowing when but could happen often.

More will be known once they get the autopsy results from the already recovered bodies. Do they have any kind of residue on them? Are the lungs full of water? Do any of the bodies have life vests on?
They will be able to piece together much from that even if they do not find the black box.

Hope you are right.

They will learn some things, but enough?
