When even hollywood reporters, via their 11 year old sons, call it "highly sexualized crap," then you KNOW it's not something where you even want to bother.

The money quote:

For 45 minutes, we sat and squirmed and waited for the laughs to come. Instead, we were treated to the little ape man Chaka repeatedly fondling the heroine’s breasts, the dirty sidekick getting hot over two Slestaks of unknown gender preparing to, in his words, “tap that ass,” an extended homoerotic drug scene involving the two male leads and Chaka, and our hero Will Ferrell letting loose with the aforementioned EDIT as in “**** you, Chaka.” By the way, the movie is rated PG-13. My wife and I were shocked that for the sheer abundance of sexual references, filthy language and breast fondling, it didn’t merit a solid R from the MPAA.

So, at about the 45 minute mark in the movie, he turned to me and said, “We don’t have to stay for any more of this.”

I replied, “Are you sure?”

“Yes, this is awful,” he said.

So we got up and walked out. My wife told me to go and ask for a refund. I told her that it was my fault for not checking the reviews, not the theater’s for not posting a warning.

As we were walking out he turned to us and said, “That was dirty, awful and disrespectful to women. It was disrespectful to Mom.”

Good kid, my son. Smarter than his father.

And I changed the bad word so it would get picked up by the bad word filter. If you think you would be offended by the original, do not click on the link.

I pass this along, because my 11 year old daughter was talking about going to see the movie, because someone at school told her "it as funny."

Apparently, some kids haven't been raised right. I'm glad I came across this review ahead of time so, I can say "sorry, we'll go see "Up" instead."

Hollywood takes something decent like the Sid and Marty Kroft "Land of the Lost" (I loved that show and I was 11 at the time it was on tv) and give it the Will Ferrel treatment.

Will Ferrel. I never did think much of that guy. Now I think even less.

There has been nothing in the advertisements for this movie that has me interested.

Will Ferrell is not that comedic to me.

The marketing sucks. It seems that it is clearly a movie targeting thirty and forty somethings who watched the campy original. But the ads made it seem like a kids movie. I can understand your complaint.

The only reason they changed it from being father/son/daughter was to amp up the sexuality. For some reason, they didn't think it would be funny if it weren't sexual.

Got to agree with the OP.

It is apparently targeted toward kids but that sounds very un-kid-friendly to me.

Yeah, I had a thread trhe other day about the hangiover vs. LOL and said LOL is DEFINTELY not for kids. I was disappinted in ferrel and co. for taking something that was clean and making it do dirty. I also 2 remember 2 f bombs in it and I thought there was a limit to 1 for pg 13. Also, there were a lot of sexual and a few drug related jokes. And if someone wants to make that movie for adults, fine. But don't target a younger audience.
In the end it was unneccesary to do that with this remake and I think they could have made a funnier movie that was not so adult/sexually oriented.

That's kind of silly. Reminds me of Lewis Black's opening to "Red White and Screwed".

I'll reserve final judgement until I see it, but from your description, it does sound like a bad idea to take a Saturday morning kid's show and do that to it.

What's next to get this kind of treatment? H.R. Puffinstuff in an AIDS drama? Roger Ramjet goes to rehab? Archie has a three-way with Betty and Veronica? (Ok, I'll admit I'd pay to see that last one.)

I disagree about Sandler. I don't really care for him when he's in control of production (PT Anderson showed how to properly use Sandler's talent), but his stories are generally tolerable Horatio Alger rags-to-riches fantasies.

I read some of the poster reviews and one of them hit the nail on the head. It's too vulgar for kids, too stupid for adults.

Let me add something to all of this...It really ****es your average parent off when they THINK that they have a relatively decent movie to take a kid to and then discover that once again, it's total crap. Remaking a old Saturday morning kid's show should'nt be anything but something that you can take your kids to.

Now I"m going to have to explain it to my kids why the movie that they saw the trailer for isn't something that they're going to see. Another reason to be annoyed.

Hollywood is filled with ignorant people. I mean that in a linear, direct way. Summertime is a time when parents WANT to take their kids to movies. They're LOOKING to spend their money in theatres. And what does Hollywood serve up? Land of The Lost.

At some point this year, we'll run into the annual article that wonders 'gee whiz, why is Hollywood hurting for box office?' And every year, thinking parents go 'because you're serving up offal'...

I agree with you on Sandler.

But especially Will Ferrel. The guy isn't funny and just seems determined to take decent subjects like a great Saturday Morning (clean) kid's show and turn it into filth and drek.

I'm glad I ran across that review. My 11 year old was trying to convince me to take her to see it, based on word of mouth from another kid her age. Now, I know the answer will be NO.

I don't understand making a movie like this and marketing it to kids, when it is OBVIOUSLY not a kid's movie.

I remember when "Batman Returns" came out in the early 90s. My husband and I were flummoxed over the fact it was rated "R" (or was it PG 13. It definitely wasn't a kids' movie), yet McDonalds was marketing toys for it in their happy meals, like they were advertising the "Lion King" or something!

We were quite shocked, as it was NOT a kid's movie. (When the parents chucked the Penguin down the sewer when he was a baby, my husband almost walked out of the theater. He can't stand seeing kid's mistreated. After seeing the rest of the movie, I wished we had. It was crap)

Now, "Up" on the other hand, sounds pretty darn good.

Anyone seen that yet? Is it any good?

you're missing some good sandler movies then.

Reign Over Me was amazing. Bed Time Stories was a great family movie too.

his early stuff was crude but the man has grown up. granted, Happy Madison produced movies still fit the mold of his earlier stuff, but Sandler himself is in my opinion one of the sure bets in hollywood today.

Thanks for the heads up regarding this "movie".

On yet another note, also try and not let your kids watch the Late Show on TV. That's why I posted your statement there. Therefore, just subsitute David Letterman for Will Ferrel in your quote, if you will, and it comes out the exact same for me ver batim.
Letterman is from my hometown in Indy where he did the weather or something, told some jokes at channel 6 or 13, and then got noticed for the Carson thing. If I noticed or remember now, I missed most of the beginning. Hannity played his Late Show trash on air with the Sarah Palin and her daughter spiel recently.
Now, as you would say, I think even less.

Him and Adam Sandler are two reasons I won't go see a movie.

Both geared to the basic primal brain functions where lives identification to fart jokes, booger wipes, and pup tents. Geared for the "stupid" in the mind, in the "hand-to-mouth" popcorn eating classroom.

Monkey see, monkey do (and doo).

I do not get the Sandler hate, he makes good movies and bad movies

I thought 50 first dates was cute and a good story, and his remake of the longest yard was pretty good Bedtime Stories I thought was a great kids movie

Bedtime Stories was good but I hate most of Sandler's stuff.

Will Farrell is someone that I"ve tried hard to like, but he's just globally terrible. Every time I see a clip of him, I get my little hopes up that he'll be hilarious and they're always dashed.

I think that it's because I'm a veteran of the old SNL and keep thinking that what comes out of that show will be an actor that is brilliant. We got Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, John Belushi, Eddie Murphy...

Perhaps a new treatment for a live action Thundar the Barbarian reboot. An action packed, sci-fi movie thrill ride with a timely family message. A 3 way love story based on homo-bestial erotic pursuits amidst the daily struggle to survive in a futuristic, post apocolyptic world. And yes, the 'bad guys' will definitely have conservative values.

It's charming for the most part. Won't make you love him but you also won't want to commit suicide before it's over with (or to make it be over). Kids loved it.

I can't get my kid's nose's out of their Ninendo DS (11 year old) and WOW (19 year old). Summer vacation and all they want to do is play video games. This is what I get for marrying a computer geek. Kids that have too much of his computer genes in their psyche.

At least I don't have to worry about the tv. They hardly ever watch it.

Has Will Ferrell EVER made a movie worth watching? His acting is something like you would see at a grade school play level and all he does is yell in his movies. I just can't stand him and his big mouth. Jack Black is another one who thinks the movie will be better if he screams his lines.
