View Full Version : Government Motors:Thanks- a- Billions

Just to think about it, all those billions in tax payer dollars down the toilet. The sad part about it, is even with bankruptcy, we still have the same people in power that got us into this mess at GM. The only thing that has changed at GM, is the CEO.
Lets forget about the past, lets make some cars and get GM going again. OK, what kind of car are we going to make? What do you mean we don't have any idea of what fuel source the government wants? Obama supports wind and solar so lets make a car. We can't run a car on wind and solar? Well, what kind of car will we make? Can someone go ask our new President of GM, Obama, what kind of fuel this country is going to?

He lays out how the new company will be run, then says he has nothing to do with running it. Liar. Talks out of both sides of his mouth. The media says nothing about it. They kiss his azz.
Rush says that big media is next. I think he's right... then Obama can control the airwaves.

do you really believe that? Do you think the govenment will be sending out proxy votes in the mail? We just threw billions down the drain for to avoid something that should have happened to begin with. The sad fact is, that the reason GM got into debt, the unions, are still there.

I started using this on the road. When I stop at a store or whatever and someone is complaining about money or paying for something, I have been shouting out, "Hey, hows that hope and change working for ya". They had a guy in front of me the other day complaining about the price of cigerettes and I yelled out," hows that hope and change working for ya". I got some laughs in line.

Unions are in control and I heard Obama say that now bankruptcy was the way to go. I am sorry, after spending billions down the drain and now he says bankruptcy is a way to go. I am not so sure that GM is facing a bankruptcy rather a restructuring allowing unions to rewrite their contracts. After this is all said and done who is to say that anyone would want GM or Chrysler's products.

Possible, but unlikely. The vehicles on the lots and in the pipeline allready exist on the books at a certain cost. With GM on life support, it would be hard to recover financially by selling product at a loss.

I now make my payments to a company that is under the control of Obama. GMAC took a lot of money so they owe him allegience.

you need to write them a letter and ask to have what you paid towards the bailout deducted from your mortgage.

My husband and I decided since the government will probably own 70% of GM that we are finished buying GM products because we already give enough of our money to the government, and they don't need any more. So my next car will probably be a Toyota or Ford. The sad thing is we have never bought anything except Chevy's for the past 20 years.....how times change!!!!!!

I loved Obama's little spin in front of the camera today. "Inherited from the previous administration blah blah blah blah not my fault yadda yadda yadda"...
These companies were facing a crisis decades in the making, and having relied on loans from the previous administration, were asking for more.
Revisionist history, yet again... let's go back to Nov. 11, 2008:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/11/10/AR2008111003267.html
President-elect Barack Obama yesterday urged President Bush to support immediate aid for struggling automakers and back a new stimulus package, even as congressional Democrats began drafting legislation to give the Detroit automakers quick access to $25 billion by adding them to the Treasury Department’s $700 billion economic rescue program.
Bush, speaking privately to Obama during their first Oval Office meeting, repeated his administration’s stand that he might support quick action on those bills if Democratic leaders drop their opposition to a Colombia trade agreement that Bush supports, according to people familiar with the discussions…
Congress could consider the auto measure as soon as next week, when lawmakers are scheduled to return to Washington. Yesterday, in an urgent bipartisan appeal, all 15 House members and both senators from Michigan sent a letter asking the Bush administration to include the auto industry in the Treasury program on its own initiative or to work with Congress to modify the program.

How many more companies face the same desolate outlook of being taken over by this administration? The once proud, and quality automaker has made a big mistake in allowing government to stick its nose in company-union business. They never should have taken bailouts, and they managed poorly. I think many people will now say goodbye to GM because it is government owned and dominated!
We want nothing to do with the new government who overpowered the will of its people. These cars will be small, unsafe, and cost more in higher insurance premiums.

I would love to have a future Republican candidate use "Inherited from the previous administration " as a dig when he(Obama) condoned and supported the bailout. Obama did not let well enough alone as far as the Auto companies. I guess he wasn't thinking then, he was reading his teleprompter which wasn't programed for that.

Will the Government subsidize car insurance? Will it be the same cost or will it be cheap? This may hinge on the viability of his re-election. Love to hear slogans for all this to come.

You are right. Back in March, he gave out another 30 billion or more, GM was trying to re negotiate their debt along with union contracts. He stated then that if he had not taken action that bankruptcy was likely.

Lets just say that most of us had the money these days to purchase a car. What makes anyone think that most people would buy a car from a government and union run auto company? No one seems to be looking over the horizon. We are broke as a country, we have no way to pay for the trillions of dollars in spending the dems and Obama are on. Like Rick Santourm said the other day, he doesn't know what the stock market is smoking or what they see in the future as being so bright, but we all see a lot of debt. I mean the stock market went up over 200 pt today, on a day when GM is kicked out the stock market and the price of oil is nearing 70 dollars a gallon with people out of work and losing homes. Do you see a rosie sanario in there?

Will there be a possible deep discount on automobiles Made by GM? Maybe a 10-20% discount.
Well, my company had about $300k in invoices out to a large chemical company that was in the throes of a huge asbestos class action law suit. When the chemical company filed for protection, the lawyers were offering $0.40 on the dollar to clear their debts. If GM does that with the fleet of vehicles out there, I'm going to buy a Corvette with the biggest engine and a six speed transmission and I don't even like GM cars!!!!

The most amazing part is that as part of this deal, GM cannot import the matchbox cars they make over-seas to sell here. Why? To protect the Unions, of course.
Didn't leftists suffer a bit of apoplexy when Reagan did a little protectionism for Harley Davidson? It's okay now, I guess.

Look I know what you are getting at, that Obama inheriated this. Well, most intelligent people know that is not true. First let me clear this up, I think both sides suck, republican and democrat. Now, the democrats have been in charge of Congress since O6, and if you remember right they did not want to even pass the budget while Bush was there, they wanted to wait for Obama. So as much as they say they inherited, the truth is, they did it to themselves. We can sit here all day and point fingers, at who started this mess in the housing market, but I can say this, there are more democratic fingerprints on it than anyone else. Freddie mac, Fannie mae, Acorn, Dodd and Barney Frank will all have to answer for this one day.
So to your point, no Obama didn't cause the 11 trillion, but he has sure brought it there. He has created more debt than all of our Presidents combined, and in just under a hundred days. The sad part is, they plan on spending more, if you can believe that. Even after Obama himself said we don't have the money. The fact is, we are printing money at a rate never ever seen before in our history, with no way to pay for it. I really don't see a victory in 2010 or 2012 for democrats, unless the republicans continue to follow moderates into the ditch.

...and now added to their mess GM!
In business, a debt to equity ratio of 2:1 (as carried by GM) in any culture, system of democracy or society (whether it be capitalist, socialist or a hibrid of...) is a failure. Why our trusted government sank so many billions into what was an inevitability is beyond me. However, it all makes sense after all.
The only winner here is the unions, a position they would not have been able to achieve had bankruptcy been excercised when it should have 6 or more months ago. Our government has failed us, have been dishonest and surely has set our path to peril as we know the Mighty USA to be...
