My uncle Odie (Odell) has been diagnoised with lung cancer. He and his wife Joyce left earlier this week for Florida where they thought he would have surgery today to remove the tumor. Their daughter lives there with her husband who is a doctor and one of his associates was to perform the surgery. Further tests have revealed that the cancer is much much worse than they thought. My mom mentioned a tumor the size of a human hand. Now they are possibly looking at surgery early next week but not sure.
Uncle Odie is my Dad's brother and our families are extremly close. When I was just a young lad our families vacationed every year in Panama City Beach Florida and I have very fond memories of that. Our familes were also together most every weekend, with the adults playing a marble game they pretty much made up themselves and us kids doing what kids do. They also got out of bed and drove over an hour the night Mitch got shot and brought my parents to the hosptial to be with us and stayed all night. I could not even imagine what my life would have been like growing up without Uncle Odie and Aunt Joyce. I would be much less of a man without them in my life. Your prayers would be very much appreciated. I will update when I hear more.

Prayers for Uncle Odie going up.
My brother was diagnosed with lung cancer 2 years ago. They were able to remove the lower 1/3 of the affected lung.
He didn't even have to go through chemo or radiation treatment. He's been doing very well.
I pray that your Uncle has the same results.

Hello Jeff,
Your Uncle Odie and his Wife are in my prayers to the Good Lord that He send his healing Blessings along in abundance. Having a SIL who is a Doctor is a Blessing in itself. I pray that all of your Uncle's caregivers be Blessed from God's hands to their hands in healing Odie.
Be as well as you can be my Friend; Your entire Family is always in my prayers.

Oh, Jeff, may the LORD give comfort and healing, strength and courage to all your family!
May He preserve your uncle to you until the day when Uncle Odie's labors are done, restoring that which is broken because of Adam's greed, to extend his days among all those who rely on him and need his face among them, especially his heart's mate.
Your entire family is surely dear to me, for they walk in faith and grace that comes only from the LORD of Lords. I pray He give you solutions for this heavy burden, too.

My uncle's surgery went well. The docs said the tumor was huge and already starting to attach itself to thew heart walls. They are reccomending some chemo and radiation treatments just to make sure. It was a nasty and fast growing tumor and if they had not of got to it when they did he would have died in the hospital. God has intervened here my friends
This is good news, thank you all so much. Your continued prayers would be greatly appreciated

Jeff...
Am praying that all is well with your Uncle. My mom lost 3/4 of her lung to cancer and she is now doing great. Amazingly enough she does not take any medication for it, she does not have to be on oxygen and she did not require chemotherapy after the surgery. So I am praying that your Uncle will have the same kind of success!
Take care and your all in my prayers...

My uncle is having some complications with infection. It isn't staff but I think they are calling it a Strep Infection, similar to strep throat. He is still in ICU and will be for a few more day, apparently he is going to have to go through another surgical procedure that is pretty major to fix all this. The doctors think they can handle it and my aunt is very positive and optomistic. Your continued prayer will be appreciated.

Uncle Odie had surgery yeaterday, I am not 100% sure what is going on cause they are in Florida. The best I understand the surgery was to contain the infections. Everything went well and it was a sucess. Now he is going to do the chemo and radiation very soon. Thank you very much and please keep praying.

The latest news this afternoon is that they go his fever to break, which is good, but he is still very very sick. They called my Aunt and cousin to the hospital at 5 am this morning telling them he was in grave condition.
God knows what's gonna happen, and his plan is perfect. My aunt and cousin (their only daughter) are good with that too as they are strong Belivers. Thank you for your prayers, we need all the prayers we can get today.

Uncle Odie passed away early this moring. This is a huge blow to our family as were all very close. Next to my own father, Uncle Odie has been the most powerfull and positive male role model in my life. He was a true Disciple of Jesus Christ and his life mirrored that every day. We had many good times over the years and those memories I will always cherish. Our two families were togehter most every weekend as I grew up, and we also vacationed together in Florida every year. I would certainly be less of a person had I not had him in my life.
Please pray for our family. He and my Aunt Joyce had one daughter, Suzanne, who lives in Florida with her husband and sons. They are flying back to Alabama tommorrow. Also remember my mom and dad, dad is taking this really heard. He isn't a man that lets loose of his emotions all that much but today is different.
Sail on my dear uncle and brother in Christ, thank you for everything you have done for me over the years. I love you and will never forget you.

Sail on my dear uncle and brother in Christ, thank you for everything you have done for me over the years. I love you and will never forget you.
Even as my heart rejoices in a dear brother safely delivered into the New World where Christ reigns directly and in person, my heart weeps for you and my other brothers and sisters in Christ who must now struggle to carry on without his daily input into your lives.
I pray that He gives each of you, especially Joyce and Suzanne and your father and mother, the Peace of Christ which passes all understanding, the knowledge that this is NOT "goodbye," only "bon voyage" until the day of our own Journey Home. For surely, "we are in this world, but not of this world" -- and now another dear Saint has sailed for Home, to be united with all his brothers and sisters, friends and fellows who have already been translated.
And I pray that He comes quickly quickly to call us all Home, that all the Saints who are His Inheritance may see and know His Victory over this world which is not our home, our labors for His glory completed, His majesty and honor and enthronement in our hearts, in our lives, completed forever and a day, our joy brought to fruition through Him whom we serve.

Thank you guys so much. I sent my Aunt a link to this thread and she is very thankfull for all you guy's goodness. It look we will have his funeral service on this comming Lord's Day Sunday afternoon. Your thoughts and prayers are very appreciated. I know that in the last 6 months that my family has really been demanding on your prayer lives, and we are all very gratefull.
My Uncle was a man of few words for the most part. He always thought before he spoke, like his brother my father. Our families vacationed in Floridia every year and one of the things I remember about him is that he didn't swim. He never got in water over a couple feet but us kids use to try and lure him out deeper. LOL. He wasn't a man with a bad temper either, he always had full control of himself, always. He really did everything he could to build into my life, and be a good example of what a man should be. There was never a crisis situation in the life of my family over the past 50 years that he and my aunt were not there for us, not even once can I remember a time of crisis when they were not there, and us for them. I remember a talk he and I had several years ago. He put his arm around me and gave me a stern lecture about stopping smoking and it was obvious by the look in his eyer how serious he was. He wasn't talking down to me, he just cared. The night of Mitch's accident they brought my parents to the hospital in the middle of the night. They actually had company comming from out of town the next day, and my mom begged them to go home and take care of all that business, they refused and stayed there with us. My uncle put God first in his lfe and everything else fell into place. On this day he reaps the reward for that faith. I know this is long but I just wanted you guys to know a little about the man. I think the lyrics to an old song pretty much sums up my feeling about Uncle Odie and his passing into Eternity and I will have to paraphrase here:
"Though I cry I am so proud, to love a man so rare"

Sounds like my own great-uncles and aunts.
A man worth the knowing.
I shall enjoy serving him tea in the LORD's House of Many Mansions, indeed I will. He'll tell me all about the shenanigans you got up to as a kid and how the LORD kept you always in His sight.
May the LORD make Uncle Odie's Going Home Day celebration a joyful affirmation of the life of a God-loving man -- and may He supply your aunt a new anchor to hold her steady against the rip tides of this world. May He supply many more anchors to your entire family that none of you shall drift against the rocks without Uncle Odie's strong sure hand to help hold the helm on a true course.

Dear Jeff,
I am so, so sorry to hear this news. I will keep your uncle in my prayers this weekend and I will add him to my rosary as well.
A brother's love is a brother's love. My uncle still cries when he talks about my dad his brother. Had my dad survived his cancer, he would have been 71 in August. My uncle and my dad were 11 mos 3 weeks apart in age. They actually were the same age for a week. They vacationed together after my uncle retired and would come down to visit us when we lived in FL. He really, really misses my dad something awful so I can understand how your dad is taking this news. Death is never easy when it is someone that you love.
Again my condolences to your family. I am very sorry. God bless you

Your uncle sounds like he's a great man. I lost my favorite uncle a few years ago; in some ways, he was closer than my own Dad.
