When McLucas came to work Friday, her boss told her another supervisor had found her flag offensive. “I was just totally speechless. I was like, ‘You’re kidding me,’” McLucas said.

McLucas’ husband and sons are former military men. Her daughter is currently serving in Iraq as a combat medic.

Stifling a cry, McLucas said, “I just wonder if all those young men and women over there are really doing this for nothing.”

Then, late Wednesday morning, Kindred posted on its website a statement about the incident. It reads, in part: "The disagreement was over the size of the flag and not what it symbolized. We have invited the employee to put the flag back up."http://cbs11tv.com/local/patriotism.at.office.2.1020415.html

yeah, likely public pressure caused them to change their tune, but at least they got it right, IMO.

Apparently been in America for 14 years...

I don't understand why said immigrant would still be here after 14 years if the Flag offends them so much..

I'd like to hear from this person as to why the flag offended them. It's very diturbing that someone would be here for 14 years and is offended by our flag. It's a statement of how they feel about this country.

I would have taken flag pole and posted him.

Without having read the story...if it's a private enterprise, they can allow/disallow whatever they like with regards to personal displays. If it's a public place...well then the "offended party" just needs to shut the hell up.

Can't display American Flag, don't get Government funding. There is nothing in this world that says the American flag is ever offensive.

"The disagreement was over the size of the flag and not what it symbolized. We have invited the employee to put the flag back up."

We talked to McLucas Wednesday afternoon. She says the hospital's local CEO called and apologized. And McLucas says the woman did tell her she could put the flag back up, which she has done.

But she says when she was first told the flag had to go, nobody mentioned anything about its size being the root of the problem.

"At no point was I afforded the opportunity -- [no one said,] 'Hey Deb, could you get a one and a half by three and a half and hang it instead of hanging this three by five?'" McLucas said.

That's from the CBS website cited earlier.

The flag was taken down because it "offended" someone, then Kindred tried to cover their ass by claiming it was the size, but now they have allowed the woman to put the same flag back up so I guess size didn't really matter.

But as to the root cause of this doom?

Still no consensus there and thus we continue to slide into the abyss..

Yeah, who does this American woman think she is? Just because she was born here doesnt give her the right to take pride in our nation.

We are an international community of communities, right?

No room for patriotism any more, only for Global Googoos.

Yup.

I would love the media to look into and scrutinize the "offended one", do some digging into why they were offended by the symbol of their host nation, since we do have a fairly good idea why McLucas was displaying her national pride it would only be fair.

Where is the real media?

Stifling a cry, McLucas said, “I just wonder if all those young men and women over there are really doing this for nothing.”

They're doing it for worse than nothing.

They're doing it for a tyrannical government. Not knowingly, though. I don't blame the soldiers, but it's too bad that they're not used against the biggest threat to American liberty, the United States federal government.

This cartoon pretty much sums it up: http://www.livefreenow.org/images/cartoons/cartoon30.gif

So, I saw this just now on Lou Dobbs. (Shepard is off seeing a game or something...so I'm drifting.)

Their reports showed the two employees shared a small space. So I guess the guy felt crowded maybe. I know someone who's claustraphobic to that point.

He wasn't offended by the flag itself, or maybe even not the size. But it seems a dispute took place, and maybe SHE offended him. Maybe she brought up the whole "You're not even American."

I don't agree with the CBS article... if it was about the size of the flag, then the woman wouldn't have been told about a coworker finding it "offensive" in the first place.

It sounds like they stepped in it big time, and then did some serious backpedalling.

Some fine Devillian Advocation... :)

I am surprised that more people aren't offended by the flag and pole being found laying on the floor. To me that is a bigger offense then some idiotic company making the decision to honor an "offensive" complaint such as this.

I just hung up a flag on my wall. I refused to stick it up with pushpins, and actually had to explain that to someone. Luckily, it had massive grommets that seem to suffice.

Nothing offensive by the flag at your workspace, though people where I work seemed to take offense when last 9-11 I refused to have a huge American flag adorn my work space. I already have a smaller US flag in my workspace which I think is quite enough.

Yes I had the "your an immigrant" thrown in my face which ****ed me off so I raised my flag of St George just slightly higher than the US flag. LOL I know it was petty but the problem was no one I worked with figured out the significance

There's something that I remember from "American battles" years ago, but seems not in many years. When I was a kid watching the "Patriotic War Movies", the "US Flag" was carried into battle by one certain American.

As the attack/battle became hot, it was the duty of that American to keep that Flag flying for America. If that Flag hit the ground (the carrier of it went down) another American and then another kept it from hitting the ground...bur waving proud. Was that just another movie prop or was it true "battle protocol?

I can look it up but I'm sure someone else knows. As many other things that makes America great and more wonderfully far above other countries, many...foreigners have squatted on the very things that made us great.

I could say "why does it happen" but the fact that is does is all tht matters. Many American's blood has been shed while holding up "Old Glory", but I guess that's another thing of the past America...We seem to need a real good "dose" of PC nowadays to keep some people happy.
