Any of you see this? SF Chronicle article talking about pairing wines with BARBECUE!!! These left coasters baffle me. They will go so far out of their way to get the most authentic ingredients for a specific ethnic meal, but when it comes to food birthed in the American South they sully everything it stands for. WINE WITH BBQ!!! It is so wrong. Lift up your skirts and drink a beer with your BBQ like you're supposed to. If you want to separate yourself from those beneath you, drink a Belgian or something. Croup, I hope you are listening.

Hoob - are you an honest to goodness southern boy? I have to get down to the bottom of this wine mess. They're talking freaking zinfandel.

Just to prove that all Californians aren't nuts.... I won't eat barbecue without an icy cold beer. Foreign or domestic don't matter, because the star of the show is the barbecue.

While a full-bodied beer is my beverage of preference, a good Bardolino or Valpollicello... even a good Shiraz or hearty Cab with BBQ is terrific...

You can always have a beer after dinner. ;)

... or Bourbon.

I love wine of all flavors but I prefer red to white most of the time. I have never been a fan of paring wines with dishes b/c many of the dishes I craft go great with Merlot. I would rather drink urine then Merlot.

Depends on what you call BBQ really. Some folks call grilling a steak BBQ, and wine would be in order with that.

I'm with you on the southern BBQ, ribs, and stuff like that.

The perfect BBQ plate:

3 ribs
1 BBQ on a bun
1 pile of coleslaw
1 mini ear of corn
2 or 3 ice cold beers
lots of napkins.

If you think Bar-B-Que is a verb that means to cook outdoors: You might be a Yankee. :))
