Heard it on the hourly radio news, Democrats voted with Republicans on this one. Apparently the reason for the Senate vote was concern that the detainees could end up in the U.S.

I still fail to understand why Gitmo needs to be closed. If Obama's not happy about how it's run, wouldn't it be easier to reform the procedures there, rather than outright close it?

BTW, sounds like there's a civil war in the D side of the government.

Political correctness demands it, that's why.

Wow, are they thinking clearly today, may not have drank sooo much kool aid this morning. Finally sunk in I guess, didn't want those detainees living next door to them.

Don't close it, keep waterboarding (well guess the cat's out of the bag on that one).

They could store them in the bunker now, Biden gave that one up too.

Congress actually did something right for once? Inconceivable!

But the president said he would close it...

Clearly Mr. Obama didn't know this would happen.

When Obama hears about this, heads will roll.

I don't believe for one minute that if Oblamer really wanted it closed the dems would have voted no.

it's all about his image, it's all about him. he can now say to the supporters that demand it closed..."I tried, but Congress wouldn't blah blah blah uh whistle"

This I agree with, very true and accurate depiction of what is going to happen.

Harry Reid is almost angry. He says they WILL NOT allow the Gitmo detainees to be in America, even in prison. But he said something really weird, that they can't just be transferred-you have to release them in order to transfer them to U.S. prisons.

Oh I think there are a couple of other points on which the two will bump heads. This one was a bit surprising to me, though.

Agreed. This was evident when he said he wanted it closed in 12 months. If it's so bad, why not close it now??

Obama's demand that corporate America boycott Las Vegas has not helped Reid's pitiful chance of get re-elected..

Apparently the reason for the Senate vote was concern that the detainees could end up in the U.S.The REAL reason for the vote is that Congressional Democrats didn't want to face voters in 2010 and explain why they are willing to let terrorists be moved to U.S. soil.

But Gibbs was just on the TV saying that the administration wants to bring them to the US anyways.
