I can finally replace that old qty(6) 250gig sata drive raid 5 I have set up...

Newegg came through with free shipping and 89 bucks a drive.... :)

I'm going for the raid 1 over 5 with an online hot swap this time. Hardware is cheap. :)

1 over 5 as in mirrored stripes or 1 instead of 5?

1 instead of 5. I'm figuring the mirror will be fine, because I've only got around 350gb worth of data now, and its also backed up on a 400 I had laying around... :)

I'm actually tired of the electric bill, and the waste of space in my basement more then anything!

Aren't mirrored striped volumes raid 50?

Hmmm... I'm a little rusty.... :)

Edit: Raid 50 is striped redundant raid's. Striping across multiple raids...a raid'd raid if you will... :) Don't think thats in the budget this season.

I think that is striping across multiple raid 5 arrays. Or is it raid 5 over striped pairs? Crap I don't know, the craziest I do is RAID 10, striping over mirrored pairs which totally kicks ass for database storage.

I though you were talking about mirroring multiple raid 5 stripes.

Heh heh...I've got that at work but not at home... :)

I'm facilities & the NOC & dev guys take care of the storage...I haven't done that since around '00 or so. Still fun though with all of the new hardware about... :)
