I think I have an inflamed prostate. I have been diagnosed with Chronic Prostititis in the past. I "over exerted" myself yesterday? But the pain is real bad. I do not think it is a bladder infection.

Take Tylenol and Ibuprofen. Need stronger call a pharmacist open all hours. or a hospital intern, someone that can write a prescription.

Call hospital first.

Have you seen a doctor yet?

This is very similar to what my Bear experienced. And refused to deal with till he wound up in the ER because he had no choice.

Am PRAYING.

For solutions to the cause of the pain, for pain to stop -- and for ability to see that doc NOW!

Think of it this way: pain is God's way of forcing us to see a doc and fix a major malfunction.

NOW!

So, if you can use it, USE IT, already yet even.

Cause the pain needs to go away so our friend can rest and his body can get on with wiping out the uglies and feeding the pretty new cells You designed his system to produce.

well, I dunno if this will help in the future. But in lieu of SERIOUS pain medication, when my back went out the first time the doctor prescribed a weeks worth of Ibuprophen 1600mgs. So I know it's safe to take up to that much for a few days (8 200mg capsules every 4 hours. Another option is to take 2 Ibies and 2 Sodium Naproxin. I've done this for severe pain and it has done well to take the most edge off.

Warning. These are non bottle instructions, and I'm not a doctor. I'm just telling you what I've done in the past for severe pain that has helped me. But I'm also a big guy who need a higher than normal dose of pain meds.

"Equate Ibuprofen Softgel " kicks butt and take names.

I take 2, and in about 20 mins any pain is gone. They are 200mg.
However, you can't take these things indefinitely, the label MUST be read.

Probably the best off the shelf medicine I've ever seen.
I can't imagine what taking 4 would do. It probably would numb a spinal tap.

We get it here, too.

I have found that alternating Equate with other mild pain alieviators helps, too.

The more you take of a med, the less your body responds to it because of buildup resistance.

Just do NOT overdose yourself. Ask the doc first, because chemicals, even naturally occuring food chemicals, interact with each other differently, sometimes in great ways -- and sometimes in not happy ways at all.

For example, chocolate and oranges interact beautifully with each other -- but not chocolate and lemons. YUCK!

And get online to research the condition for yourself. Find out all you can about causes and what others with the same condition have found to help.

Dietary changes and gentler, less destructive meds like the Equate may make it easier to control and prevent such attacks in the future.

Everything in life has both positive and negative aspects to it. Know what damage occurs in trade off for what you gain before you do something, especially before you put stuff inside your bod.

Control and prevent, friend. Control and prevent BEFORE it can get this bad in the future. Anticipate the negatives and set up preventions before you reach for the gains.

I pray you are more at ease this morning, indeed I do!

Doesn't matter how 'big' you are on the outside, your kidneys and liver and gut are not. You're playing with fire if you're taking 2 NSAIDs together like that, or 1600mg of ibuprofen every 4 hours. There's a reason why OTC meds contain directions and warnings. You'd be wise to heed them.

Truth

NSAIDs can cause uncontrolled internal bleeding and MAJOR stomach problems, all by themselves, or so I'm told.

SEE A DOCTOR and do what that doc says.

Pain this severe is NOT something to fool around about. Especially since while we try to control the pain ourselves, the condition that causes the pain just keeps on getting worse.

The Cipro should have been relieving the condition -- and thereby relieving the pain -- some time ago.

If it's not working, the doc guessed wrong, and something else is the problem, so a different treatment is in order.

Not to mention renal insufficiency or outright failure.

I had to read that above post several times... I couldn't believe he was suggesting 1600 mg of ibuprofen every 4 hours. Even if a doctor ordered that, you can bet your tail I'd refuse to administer it and be on the horn with him (and pharmacy) to clarify that order. That's WAY the heck over the maximum safe daily dosing.

I can't imagine what taking 4 would do. It probably would numb a spinal tap.

Blow out your kidneys and liver.

To the OP: listen to your Dr. It's a really bad idea to take medical advice on an internet message board.

Case in point; if you have a viral infection (probably not sense you have a lot of pus) and are taking an OTC like Aspirin to treat the pain, you risk getting Reye's Syndrome. It's rare among adults (a real concern among children), but not unheard of.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reyes_Syndrome

Hopefully they will find your bug upon staining and switch you to the right antibiotic if necessary and knock the problem out.

Have you talked to your Dr. about why you have a chronic infection? That's seems more disturbing to me than the acute infections that accompany it.

Sorry if any of this has been addressed already, I am posting while I am reading.

geauxtohell

If it's not working, the doc guessed wrong, and something else is the problem, so a different treatment is in order.

It's not a matter of "guessing", it's a matter of putting someone on a broad spectrum anti-biotic until you can recover a bug and then adjusting as necessary.

It's not guess work to immediately start someone on a broad spectrum anti-biotic until you know what you are dealing with. Not even "House" can lay his magic eyes on someone and know which bacteria is causing a general infection.

Though, if I were placing bets, I'd go with E. Coli.

When I start feeling like I'm having urinary problems, I get right on the cranberry juice and water, drink plenty of both. I'm sorry you are having so much trouble. I've been having a sinus infection with resulting tooth, jaw, ear, facial, throat pain the last several days. It's the sinus infection from hell with unspeakable pain. I'm hoping the 10 day round of antibiotics does the trick. Please camp out at the doc's if you're not getting a turn around.

BAD NEWS.My pain and burning is from mostly my prostititis flare up and not my UTI.

Dr. said Cipro will kick in after a week (due to my prostititis problem adding to it). This pain and burning etc.. could take 2 MONTHS!

No way I am taking any Percocet or anything. I have to drive, work, etc. He said it is safe to take 800 mg Ibuprofin 3-4 times a day...for pain/inflammation.

Please pray this thing goes away at least somewhat ASAP! God Bless! Kevin.:wall::silenced:

have they even discussed a catheter with you? my husband was forced to use one for over 6 months -- but it DID stop the agony

and, when the VA ran the tests for prostate cancer, it took the GOOD docs less than a month to stop the problem for real

The crap docs in the first hospital did the same thing -- prescribed antibiotics, did NOT do the necessary tests for cancer, and would have seen him dead within weeks.

Three times to the local ER, three days in the hospital -- and they ignored the real problem which was cancer, doing nothing to correct the prostate enlargement that was causing the agony.

Then, out of sheer desperation, he tried the VA hospital three hours away from our home. Now, he's mending well, catheter free, pain free, and, best of all, cancer free, his life extended for years.

Prostate problems this severe are not games to play with.

Are you SURE this is a bacterial infection and ONLY that?

Have they tested you for the possibility of cancer and completely ruled out that possibility?

And, yes, the prostate, just like any other organ, can rupture if it becomes too enlarged.

And pressure from an enlarged prostate CAN cause major irreparable damage to the kidneys and bladder and urethra.

As well as causing a secondary bacterial infection -- which my Bear also suffered from, taking Cipro to kill the infection, while the VA docs set up his surgery to correct the prostate problem that was the primary cause of all the rest of his troubles.

SEE A DIFFERENT DOC and make sure they're checking for all the other possibilities.

And discuss surgery to reduce the prostate by scraping it back down to size -- a common procedure in the States that is saving the lives of our own men, big time -- because, just as women endure menopause and osteoporosis as part of the aging process, so men endure prostate enlargement as they move through their middle and approach the retirement years.

if the source of the infection is an enlarged prostate, antibiotics will not help

Antibiotics are for the prostate INFECTION and UTI. I am in the process through the Clinic of seeing my Specialist again (urologist) again.

Chronic Prostatitis he diagnosed me with several years back. Usually I'm fine but this one was/is the worst. Emerg. Dr. said my prostate was warm but not TOO BIG.

I am 36. I am doing everyt6hing I can incl. tons of water, hot baths etc...little to no caffeine and better diet, cran. juice,etc..
Want to try Saw Palmetto but not sure if you can take that with Effexor XR.

P.S. THE PAIN BACK TO FRONT IS CALLED PERENIUM PAIN.

I THINK THE uti is making prostate worse.

I had a catheter in 2000 after a serious motorcycle accident.THAT WAS PAINFUL! No way I could do that! Besides what is the purpose of a catheter for my issues? I can go pee.

Your prostate is an organ that sits directly below your bladder. Three tubes run through it. Your urinary tract and a reproductive tract from each testicle. So your prostate is the intersection between your urinary and reproductive systems. At this point, you should listen to your doctor. If you have an infection in your prostate, there is a real danger of getting an epididimitis, which is an infection of your tubes around your testicles, or cystitis, a bladder infection. Those are both very serious complications. This is nothing to fool around with.

I wouldn't take any medical advice on hannity.com. There has been some really idiotic posts on this thread. Listen to your doctors. Not well meaning, but otherwise ignorant posters on an anonymous internet forum.

Try some colloid silver or grapefruit seed extract, you can get both at the health food store. If you get colloidal silver make sure you get the 10 ppm, no higher than that. Grapefruit seed extract is the strongest natural antibiotic there is.

Please check with your pharmacist before using any herbals, etc., to make sure they don't interact with any other meds you're taking.

thanks EG! Yes. I can take cranberry juice, pumpkin seeds...do not want to take saw palmetto or other stuff- on effexor xr anyway.

Real bad today off and on, terrible nausea (no throwing up),dizzy- Dr. said my 2 antibiotics should not cause this:pray:.

Anyone get dizzy/nausea from antibiotics? (ps- i follow the labels exactly as they say). I am on novo-norflaxin 400 mg twice a day and doxocycline 100mg twice a day.

THANK YOU GUYS! Kevin.

I think you need to drink a big glass of water with those antibiotics and have at least a little nibble of food (like a few crackers) so you won't feel nauseas. Watch out for the over the counter stuff, that can affect you in the same way. One thing I was thinking of that most people FORGET is: do not take your antibiotic with any milk or dairy products. Make sure you don't have any dairy for at least an hour before and an hour after taking the antibiotic. DIARY PRODUCTS INTERFERE WITH ANTIBIOTICS WHICH MAKE THEM LESS EFFECTIVE.

Sounds like the antibiotics are kicking in.

I hope you kick your chronic infection so you don't have to deal with acute episodes like this again.

oh boy..its of a chronic nature. I think I know what it is (embarassing male problem) I took 3 advil. Pain from I think to much of something if you know what I mean? Sorry no other way to put it.:shhh:

I think I have an inflamed prostate. I have been diagnosed with Chronic Prostititis in the past. I "over exerted" myself yesterday? But the pain is real bad. I do not think it is a bladder infection.

Ouch!!! Next to a kidney stone & prostitis, is about as close as you guys get to giving birth, so to speak. With me the jury is still out on that. :D However, if it is this condition, please do get some medical attention as soon as you know it is. You don't want this to linger on.

Why are you guys so darn stubborn about seeking medical help? Same thing with my husband. He could be feeling abolutely horrid but he won't go to a doctor unless, like a few months ago, his BP went way, way up and he had no choice. Me, I am always at some doctor or the other getting this or that taken care of. Hate it but would rather do that than be in pain. Absolutely hate pain, in any form or fashion.

Hope that you have seen some relief in your symptoms.

UPDATE- MUCH improved! Both the "pipes/stomach" issue and the prostate issue are much improved. I did everything I was supposed to do (will keep doing those things) and I feel much better. I am on Cipro another 4 or so weeks to help the inflammation of my prostate.

The stomach/cramps/gas issue was most likely a simple (but bad) acute bout of constipation, possibly with IBS.

Thank you all for your continued prayers! Kevin.
