i find myself actually believing this... it is as good as TWoK.

and i'll add that it will do for the star trek franchise what wrath of khan did... we'll see more trek because of this movie.

Truth.

Khan is the past.

I gave it a 3.

I'm hardcore Trek...and it was a good movie, but to be honest, the future, back in time travelling Romulan threat as the basis of the movie seemed a bit weak to me, and I wasn't intrigued by the threat.

All & all though, not a bad addition to the franchise. I liked how they referenced "Admiral" Archer's prize beagle when Scotty was talking about transporting into a warp speed moving object.

Worth the ticket price. Go see it, its fun.

Ricardo Montelband Owns "The Wrath of Khan". That was the premiere movie to which all Trek movies are measured.

4 stars, pretty good flick.

I'm more of a Star Wars fan than Star Trek...but this was much better than I expected it to be.

Huh, Chapel did, I don't think it was Uhura.

Anyways, waiting to see the movie still.

excellent movie. really excellent. a few strange music choices, but still a great movie.

even with a different actor, Bones is still my favorite.

I was going to, but I didn't really say what the "thing" was, did I? [it could've been that they were cousins, or half-siblings]

Besides, it really doesn't impact the the story line much.

4 stars here. Very good movie though, and that is one of the highest marks I think I have ever given.

Only thing it missed for it to get the Khan rating from me, was the classical references that was shared through the other movies. Outside of that, IT was damn good.

Saw it yesterday. I wanted to see it for Mother's day.

I thought it was really good. But I thought Spock was just a tad too emotional.

*spoiler alert*

AND SPOCK AND UHURA????????

That's not Spock! Kissing openly on the teleporter pad! That would have NEVER happened in the original Star Trek. Roddenberry would be rolling in his grave if he had one. (His ashes were shot into space).

Yeah, but I went to dinner last night with the whole family and we all agreed, the actor that played Bones was SPOT ON. He was perfect. He really does look like a younger Bones McCoy.

And the audience laughed every time he used this "I'm a doctor" line! :))

As for being better than the Wrath of Khan.

People. I saw Wrath of Khan in 1982. It was in one of those HUGE movie houses like they used to have where only one movie played.

Huge audience. When Spock died there were people weeping openly in the audience. Standing with their heads on other people's shoulders and those people holding them. There was open GRIEF.

And I have never seen an entire movie house THAT BIG, give a movie a Standing O before. Then there were people who stood out of respect through the entire credits and gave the movie a Standing O again.

There was some applause for this Star Trek, but NOTHING like I witnessed for Wrath of Kahn.

To call it as good as Kahn, I can go with, but BETTER? No way! Just no WAY!

The only time I, again, ever saw a standing O like that for a movie was "LOTR: The Return of the King" on opening night. And the theater for that was no where as big as the theater I saw Wrath of Kahn in.

It was not even close to Wrath of Khan and I also saw Khan on opening night (LOL yes it was in one of those single movie theatres. Those were the best). Was it entertaining? Yes. I do not think it was the best Trek. But then, I'm old school and watched TOS as a young adult. ****ner, Nimoy, et.al. will always be the original characters. And you are right: There has not been a more emotionally gripping scene than the end of Wrath of Kahn between Kirk and Spock as Spock is dying. Those actors and the characters they played were the heart and soul of Trek for me. I did not find the most recent one emotionally engaging much although I did think it was entertaining and well done.

I saw it the other night with my son.
I thought it was very well done and is a first rate movie. Very entertaining
Of course you have to view it as a stand alone film/episode/adventure that does not fit in with the historical aspect or timeline of the Trek universe.

Sorry, that was Nurse Chapel (played by Majel Barrett, of course, who married Gene Roddenberry) who always had the "hots" for Spock.

nurse chapel was chasing spock too, but watch 'the man trap' again and tell me that uhura isn't flirting with spock rather openly.

-incidentally chapel doesn't make an appearance in the movie, although bones does ask her for something.

I am a harsh critic... almost no movie earns a 5 star rating from me. This film is very good; I give it a solid 4 stars.

I really hope that we can look forward to a series of Star Trek films on this alternate time line with this cast. They were very well cast and did an excellent job of emulating the original TV cast.

As a diehard Star Trek fan who basically owns almost every season of DVD on all the Star Trek shows; I will say that it is nowhere as close to being good as The Wrath of Khan. The new Star Trek movie was a great popcorn action film that was a good watch just to see how they would portray TOS characters as younger people. But as I have said this movie will largely be forgotten by most people especially by non trekkies when the next popcorn flick takes its place. I give this movie a 4 just for a standalone as a movie rating but I would say The Wrath of Khan, The Undiscovered Country and First Contact were better quality Trek movies.

I grew up watching "The Wrath of Khan" and this movie goes right up there. Best Star Trek movie I've seen in a long time. However you really can't compare it to the older movies because it's a different style. That being said, I like the new style of the movie.

I have to give it a 5 Star rating.

Why?

**SPOILER** Highlight below.

J.J. Abrams did an outstanding job with this movie and it is totally enjoyable. My daughter grew up on TNG and at first thought the first bald Captain was Picard (until I filled her in). He really has laid the foundation to open up the Star Trek francise for a - well - new generation. Good Job.

Spoiler \/
However, to have someone straight out of the academy (who didn't even really graduate) go directly to First Officer and then assume command permanently of the Fleets newest Flagship is beyond belief. Romulans going back in time? OK. But Ensign to Captain like that? Not gonna happen. They would have been better even with a montage for 5-minutes showing 3-years of seasoning and then causing the characters to be back on Earth and then using the same storyline to get them all on the Enterprise.
