Santa Barbara is my home town and now I live about an hour north. We have a serious fire here.
We have sundowner wind conditions that are not letting up. Some 30,000 people displaced and there is minimal containment. This morning's news shows devastation reaching from the southern edge of Santa Barbara in the Montecito area, where evacuation orders are constantly expanding... to the north edge of the blaze that is jumping highways and heading northwest along the ridges toward Goleta. Dozens of homes lost. Devastation follows in the wake.
There are over 1,000 people in shelters and if a family is not displaced, they are hosting a family who is out of their home. Here, 1 hour north, we have two families we are feeding and supporting.
I know that the media loves to mention that this is a wealthy enclave, but let me tell you that lots of regular, hard-working folks live here too and they are suffering.
Please keep a good thought for us here. After a suspicious start, this fire is nature is doing her thing and people are afraid. We are all helping where we can.

You need to organize and do something to catch the serial arsonists.
Caused by "dry lightning" is code for these little domestic terrorists.

Tuesday, when the fire started, a resident at the Jesusita trail area spotted a hiker 'hauling ass' down the trail and then the fire started. No further information at this time.
The recent Tea Fire was started by stupid 20-somethings having a bonfire party in a wild area.
It's true that there are sick, stupid people in the world.
How do you stop or catch stupidity?

Lady...our thoughts and prayers are with you all. My own little brother (well, he's in his early 30's now..but still, he's my little brother) and his little girl live in Santa Barbra proper. He works in the DA's office..and for the past week he's been on patrols to get people off the mountain and help those affected by this fire into shelters and get help. I have not been able to talk to him in this past week..and I worry about him while he helps in this desperate fire. I worry for his little girl...whose almost 2...my only little niece.
If you can keep your surrounding outside area doused with water...and cover the roof of the building you live in as well with water, you will help to keep burning ash or other burning debris from catching on fire. Keep plenty of drinking water on hand. Old 2 liter soda bottles and milk container work great for holding extra stored water.
Hang in there....I know Fire and support services are working as hard as they can to get this fire under control.

take care. I am very familiar with fire. the huge fires of 2000 were also set by a domestic terrorist. He was caught the next year.
this kind of terrorism is very scary and hard to stop or intercept.
my prayers are with you all there in South California.

I have lived in Kalifornya since 1981.
I was a Volunteer Fire Fighter and Emergency Medical Technician.
My observation is this, there has been an increase in fires over the past 15 years. This one is one of the earliest fires in the season as we are not into the typical summer fire season.
The media is not asking the right questions, they no longer cover the who, what where why and when.
My fifth grader could ask better questions that any on on CNN, ABC, CBS & NBC.
So my question is this;
How are the fires getting started?
Where are they being started?
Who could be starting the fires?
Who as been caught and arrested before and what was the motive that they had?
What kind of ignition source is being used?
What motive would someone have to purposely set these fires?
Can any one think of any political activist group that would benefit their cause by starting these fires?
What group out there wants to limit the amount of people on the planet and is pushing forth the federal carbon tax?
Would they not benefit by burning as many trees that they can to increase their hysteria and emotional needs to reduce carbon emissions?.
Could activists-terrorists reduce the amount of trees and vegetation in a geographical that could cause a scare tactic to entice people to accept the carbon tax as propose?

It's really bad. I hope your little brother is ok.
I'm about an hour north, up the coast, so we are safe and sound and are helping displaced friends.
One friend has lost her home completely. She has these huge mosaic garden art pieces and there they stand - in the devastation.
The energy is very odd. Whirling dirvish winds. Tonight feels coastal and cool onshore breezes... a blessing.
