As some of you know my wife suffers from depression and many of you have offered much appreciated support. Our 15 year old daughter suffers from the same decease. Tuesday she was admitted to University of Michigan psychiatric hospital for mandatory evaluation for about 5 days after her first therapy session. I'm trying to look at this as a blessing because she was obviously honest with the therapist about some things we've known. She is extremely mad at me, her mother, and her grandmother over this because she just wants to come home and hang out with her friends and continue her bad habits and self destruction, but we won't let her. My wife, whom I'm in the process of getting a divorce from, has tried to hide behind a rock over the warning signs that were circling us for awhile. I pray she has hit bottom on this as she herself needs to come to grips with her issues and confront them if we have any hopes of saving Jordan. Its so sad to see a brilliant, gorgeous, A/B student, with college already paid for, fall so far so fast. Any thoughts or prayers of encouragement for the girl and mother would be so appreciated.

Oh boy, you really have your hands full. I hope they narrow it down and get some treatment that will help. I never had kids so in some ways I guess I got off easy. I am sorry for all your troubles. Keep us posted.

I am so sorry Rup - and I don't have any advice for you other then if you are a believer you ARE able, as her parent, to place her in the Lord's hands and ask Him to protect her and help her realize that she needs help.

I'll be praying.

Thanks all, had a long discussion with my wife last night and she said a few things that make me want to believe she realizes the scope of the situation. She said more kind things about me as it relates to my step daughters than she's said in the last 3 years. It was encouraging to hear and makes me hope she could be turning a corner. I pray she has. I just wish there was a magic cure for depression. Its so sad to see anybody suffer from it. Especially girls with so much ahead of them to enjoy in life. Whatever it takes for my wife to be happy and spread to Jordan is all I want.

My prayers are with You, your Daughter and your Daughter's Mother and offered up to the Good Lord.

I hope and pray that all involved here are Blessed with the healing that God can send.

I also pray that your Daughter's caregivers will get to the root of the problem and find a solution. I also pray that your Wife gets the same type of help.

You're in a rough situation and I will keep you and your Family in my prayers.

Be as well as you can be,

Jim

OMG, I worry that it's really getting to you. I know how hard it is to be around someone who is depressed . It's not always just their sadness but bursts of anger, pushing others away and wanting to give up. It makes everyone want to give up. I hope your wife works really hard at it for the sake of your daughter. All any kid wants is for their mom to be happy, at least that's the way it was for me.

You hit the nail on the head, there are some deep rooted anger issues. Depression is so hard to understand when not suffering from it. Any attempt to paint a picture of the situation is an impossible task. There are so many issues and story lines that it would be impossible. Thats the only way it makes me understand the enormity and seriousness of depression, the fact that its virtually indescribable. You just don't know where to start or end.
