I previously held the World's record for not getting a joke.
I found out a few years ago that the reason the horses whinnyed in terror in "Young Frankenstein" at the mention of the name "Frau Brucher" was because Brucher means "glue"In Yiddish. That was about a 25 year delay.
Well, I did myself one better. I started relistening to Vol III of Zappa's "Joe's Garage" (released in 1979) and especially the song "He Used to Cut the Grass" The first few minutes are absolutely hypnotic, the best jazz anyone on the planet has ever played. This was the world's introduction to drummer Vinny Colaiuta and I'm only recently appreciating how great this was.
The song start with Vinny, Arthur Barrow on bass, Tommy Mars on keyboards and Ike Willis singing and as I said, its totally mesmerizing.
Now that I'm able to understand the greatness of Vinny and the band in this song, I can laugh along with Zappa at: "I need to play. But there's no musicians anymore..."
30 years later I can appreciate how Zappa's weird sense of humor.
Yeah, go ahead, try and play it

I didn't know that and I love that movie... Did you realize that the Blindman in the movie is Gene Hackman... it was years before I realized that.

Talk about a delay in getting a joke....
Anyone remember Mr. Peabody and Sherman? I watched this as a kid and many of the jokes flew over my head. In particular, I recall the "Kirwood Derby" episode and not getting the joke until some time later. But the all-time delay for me came when Peabody and Sherman were searching for the "Ruby Yacht of Omar Khayam". That one didn't come to me until we studied the Rubaiyat in high school. Some of those jokes were like time bombs in your head!

My longest delay was from a Bugs Bunny episode. He was showering under a waterfall singing the tune, "I dream of a genie with light brown hair." Those are the real words, the part I missed was the words he USED, "I dream of genie she's a light brown hare." :))

Heh. I just figured out a line from a Stevie Ray Vaughan song that I've been hearing him sing since before he even had any albums out, back when he was playing local dives with a hundred people.
That didn't last long of course, the friggin guy skyrocketed to fame pretty quickly once he had Double Trouble backing him up.

Cloris Leachman was on OReily a couple weeks ago and she stated that her name meant 'glue' and that was why the horses acted out. Thus, I believe what Cloris says and say BS to Snopes...
