If it is such a good thing to have a mix within the party, why are both democrats and republicans running away from them. The dems are always upset with the so called blue dog dems within the party, and often try to defeat them, as with lieberman. The dems get up there in front of the cameras and say, we are a party of different view points, and welcome different opinions. Yet during the election they dumped moderate Hillary Clinton, and went so far to the left, there is actually not even a term for it, other than radical. Yet when the GOP tries to go back to its conservative roots, it is considered radical or far right.
The fact is moderate is just another term for a politician that can't make up his or her mind on anything. They are unable to make hard choices, therefore straddle the fence. We have a term for this in our daily lives away from Washington, its called a whimp, wussy, two faced, indecisive or an incompetent.
Just today on the Sunday talk shows and on Fox news the other day, Linsay Graham and John Ensign both echoed the call for the GOP to be more moderate. Be more like democrats is more in keeping with what Ensign and Graham are asking for. The real secret is the underlining issue of the social platform within the GOP. There has been for many years a corner of the GOP that will not bend to the Pro-God, Pro-Life, and anti gay marriage stand of the Conservatives. So to bend to the will of the democrats, the moderates within the GOP, are pushing for the party to be more "understanding" to win in blue States.
I don't know if anyone watched the last election between Obama and Mccain, but Mccain lost. Moderates were on stage and in full view of the voting public and chose not a moderate but a far left canidate. This last election was not only a loss for Mccain but a loss for moderates. When given a choice between right and wrong, black and white, or left and right , the voter will choose one or the other. In the election between Obama and Mccain, the voter was given the option of a life long democrat, or someone trying to be a democrat. They chose the democrat with the most experience at being democrat, Obama.
If we are going to rebuild the party we need to quit listening to moderates like Lindsey Graham or Ensign and seek out more conservative members of the party. We are now in a rebuilding phase, in a time when the dems have a super majority, take time to clean house of all moderates. The moderates within the party like Graham are in no way going "right". In fact Graham is pushing Tom Ridge into a fight against the Conservative canidate in Pa. That should show anyone that the moderates within the party are bent on its destrution. I myself say let them have it and form a third party, but thats me. Let them form a second democrtic party, how long do you think that party will last being a second rate choice for democrats?
