View Full Version : Mexican Mazda6 (Fusion) Help Ford Sales

A report noted Ford has passed Toyota for the #2 in sales in the US this year, and all of it has been through government mandated cars provided under President Obama's mantra for cars that are favoured by the Obama Administration.

It proved the point I made -- they said no government money while they have caved to the government's mandates by pushing for alternative fuel cars (Mazda Atenza) and mini/microcars (Ka, Focus, Fiesta). Meanwhile, they have been phasing out the large SUV's and large cars as they are complying with the government's eco-weenie standards of Pelosi, Obama, and Company.

Their rise has been almost solely with the Mazda Atenza -- known in the US as the Mazda6 (Detroit) and the Ford Fusion (Mexico). The Mazda6 is the only Japanese car built in Detroit.

The most popular of the Atenzas has been the Fusion Hybrid, which complies with the President's mandate for fuel economy standards. That's built in Mexico. The Mexican version of the Atenza will be joined by the Fiesta in the US.

Also helping the Fusion is advertising on American Idol and a gas version winning the Daytona 500. Look at the 2010 Fusion Hybrid's nose on the current Roush cars. "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday."

It was "trucks with a backbone" that got us into this mess in the first place. maybe if the Big Three spent a little less time gouging on those SUV's profit margins and put some of it into what put them on the map (cars!) they would'nt be in this mess. It's a shame that just about every single car in their stable has ties to other manufacturers either by their platforms, mechanicals or just plain repackaged overseas products.

Trucks with the backbone? That's what Americans want. The proof is there, but 35 years of liberalism has created this mess with stupid regulations that favoured the small cars to appease the greenies.

Mazda cars are great.

My first car was a '92 Mazda 626 and that thing would not die.

Those "stupid regulations" have their merits. Those small cars that you hate are helping large SUV/trucks stay afloat because they boost the company's fleet MPG (currently at 27 MPG...increased by Bush to 35 MPG by 2020 back in 2007). Besides, was it really the liberals fault for wanting to clean up the air we all breathe and decrease our dependency on foreign oil, or the domestic automakers who for some reason, could barely meet the standards set forth by our own government? (despite the Japanese exceeding them and making us look like idiots).

If you want to drive a truck/SUV (a.k.a. "cash cows") that's your prerogative, but I do believe they are the sole reason why our cars were horrible over the past 20 years and why the Japanese and Koreans have such a strong footing in the US today.

Loving my 05 Mazda 3. Very well made car for the price.

My kid brother had the 2.3 liter 3 series.

That car is peppy, and you cannot match the "additional" features (sunroof, 6 cd, mp3, etc) with anything comparable on the market.
