Just came across this video. I can't remember the last time a YT video made me tear up.
Again, this is an extremely graphic video showing multiple pictures of Baby Briana, who was repeatedly beaten, thrown, bitten, and raped by her mother, father, and uncle. Others in the family knew, but let it happen.
A harsh reminder that this stuff goes on, and all too often, lives could be saved if someone who knows would just tell the police.
The thing that really made me choke up was that the only picture of her is a Photoshop job to remove all her scars and bruises. Nobody cared enough to ever take a photo of her.

Awesome! I'm guessing most people that log in to watch that will be sitting down to breakfast tomorrow morning. Thanks for that!

I posted the warning.
The thing is...stories like this in an odd way rejuvenate me. Whatever problems I have are so menial after seeing something like this. Helps me keep things in perspective.

The family would not even claim this child's body? What kind of monsters was this angel sent to live with?
Her extended family could not even care for her after her life was over...and the cage over her grave is just another slap to this innocent little baby.
Eighteen years for beating a 6 month old baby to death? Thank God that law has now been changed.
The reporter never mentioned if the uncle and grandfather had been charged with rape. I hope they were as that charge would extend their sentences.
I do not understand how a mother could sit back and allow all this to happen to her child. How could she look at the face of that poor baby and not protect her from the rape and abuse she suffered at the hands of her own relatives or anyone else for that matter?
Then to top it all off...good ole mom abused her even more.
I've always heard that as bad as male child offenders have it in prison...females have it even worse. I hope Ms Lopez is reminded of what kind of fear her 6 month old baby endured throughout her life.
I'm not a big one for forced sterilization. Cases such as this tend to push me in the opposite direction. Cows such as this woman and the family members who were involved in the rape, beating, and murder of this innocent child should not be allowed to have the ability to create more victims in the future.
I pray that Briana now has the peace she was never afforded on this earth.

Such a beautiful baby.
I hope the family rots in hell. There's no excuse for harming a child, none. They can cause no pain. It's just senseless.

I think the family was in jail by then. If not, then they should have been.

The convictions were overturned in April 2006.

As near as I can tell, nobody did four years in prison for this crime, much less 18 years.

The lenient liberal justice system didn't do any justice. The rapists are back on the street and the mother is free to be a bad mom again.
This sort of thing is EXACTLY why we need mandatory sentencing to take discretion out of the hands of liberal judges and make all crimes black and white with absolute consequences for committing them.

I knew it had to be an old case simply because the trials had already taken place by the time the linked report was put together.
From the link you provided:
Martinez said Friday's decision is a disappointment; however, if they have to try the case again they will.
I wonder if they have ever been retried. That could be a godsend in a way. The law has now been changed to make child abuse resulting in death a lifetime sentence.
Surely this case has been retried.

Google is wonderful tool. It's one that just put my mind at ease a bit.
The pigs that raped, abused, and murdered this precious child did not walk free after all.
The appeal was overturned and the sentences reinstated.
LINK (http://haussamen.blogspot.com/2007/08/convictions-reinstated-in-baby-briannas.html)
In the case of Stephanie Lopez, the Supreme Court agreed with the appellate court that the admission of the statements violated Stephanie Lopez’s right to confront her accuser. However, the court also found that the error was “harmless” because the jury would have convicted her even without the statements, and that’s why it reinstated her conviction.
Brianna’s father and uncle were sentenced to 57 and 51 years in prison, respectively, for raping and killing the girl. Her mother received 27 years for negligence that led to the girl’s death. Because the conspiracy convictions against the father and uncle were not reinstated, their sentences will likely be reduced slightly.

In 2007 the "New Mexico Supreme Court reinstated child abuse convictions against the father and uncle of Baby “Brianna.”
Both the father, Andy Walters, and uncle, Steven Lopez, had been convicted of several charges, including child abuse resulting in death and criminal sexual penetration of a minor and sentenced to more than 50 years in prison.
But their convictions were overturned last year by the court of appeals.
The Supreme Court reversed the appellate court on all convictions for each man, except conspiracy to commit intentional child abuse.
The 5-month-old child, known as Brianna, died in July 2002. "

Ironically, the link has another headline on it about a man who wrote the court an affidavit stating that jury duty is a waste of time.
At least 24 jurors had to relive the horror story of baby Brianna complete with graphic photos and details of the autopsy and for what? So a couple of namby-pamby criminal coddling justices can overturn the convictions again and again?
I'm no fan of skipping out on jury duty. Part of being a citizen of this great country means you fulfill your civic duties, even the unpleasant ones like paying your taxes and serving on jury duty.
I can see why people would skip out on jury duty however, when judges just toss their work aside on a whimsy or technicality which has nothing to do with guilt or innocence.
Judges are supposed to serve the public. All too often they seem to serve the criminals who prey on the public.

What can one say in the face of such grotesque and horrifying tragedy? It makes me wonder why the death sentence wasn't put on the table? I mean the mom of Cayliegh Anthony has it sitting on the table...why not for these three monsters as well? :eh:
Justice in these types of cases seems far from what the word means to most American's. How is housing these monsters, feeding them, giving them medical and dental care a punishment? It boggles the mind.....:eh:
As far as the Grandmother knowing about the abuse and not saying anything...she should be thrown in there with her daughter...same for the other Uncle that knew and did nothing. :frown: Justice....puh...yeah...ok....whatever you say Judge.

The lack of respect for life begins in the womb. Yes I am teary right now but I am angry too. Life is expendable. We made that clear in 1973. So while we all wonder once again what kind of monsters can commit these heinous behaviors just remember we accepted a court ruling that life had no value pre-birth. Why would we think young people with likely little family guidance or teachings apparently would value the same life post birth.
Yes Brianna's story made me weep, ache and get angry. Much like I do when I see any life ended because some robed men back in the free love days made it palatable to do so.

Beyond me what could drive someone to do this. It took more effort to abuse the Briana than it would to leave her at with someone else, at a fire station or any safe drop.
So incredibly despicable. Everyone involved should be in prison for life.

This is just so unbelievably sad. :frown:
I hope that men named Bruno and Bubba are making the men's lives miserable in jail everyday, and someone named Big Bertha is making the woman, who gave birth to this beautiful baby (she doesn't deserve the title Mom) I hope everyday in jail for her is miserable.

I'm not sure that blaming liberal anything is really the answer here.
Blaming the people involved is important. Politicizing this seems uncouth and a little petty.

This is a case of retroactive abortion, the judge could have dismissed the charges and charged them instead of performing a medical procedure without a license....
The idea that life can be ended before birth, can lead to the second mistake of thinking that life can be ended at any time by anyone at any time.
The blame is greater than just the actors in this tragedy.
