Do many others enjoy just vacationing at home? This has nothing to do with the economy or finances, just a preference of having time off of work to fiddle with projects on the home front.

I usually do this, but last summer I spent a week & a half at the shore, which was great, but I was honestly bored by the halfway mark or so.

Don't get me wrong, the relaxation was great, but I now have the next 9 days off and I'm more excited about the project I have planned now then I was when looking forward to sitting on the beach.

my favorite kind of vacation!!!!

I love my house. panoramic views, parklike acres, trees, a clean deep ditch and no people can drive by my house.

I often put up a tent and camp at home.

There is a word for that now: Staycation.

Yes, vacationing at home is great. I get to do my woodworking, fiddle with my guns, and take great little day trips to local/nearby places, you know, those places that you always say you'll visit but somehow never ever do. Right now, I'm enjoying 6 days off with "the admiral" aka "war department" ;) and my little sister came down to visit. It's great.

it sure is great. I found a place that is very rare, even for here.

I've got a "mountain" behind the house and a lake within view in the front....small house, but I like it... :)

I'm not sure what "a clean deep ditch" means though... :eh:

Bah!

That word has been banished from the Clamp dictionary.

I'm a "repeat visitor". If I haven't been there in 5 or 10 years, I'll take a ride out and see how its changed during the vacation...might be about time for a Poconos run... :)

it's a May-October gravity flow irrigation ditch to serve the valley.

it comes right off a snow melt lake way up in the mtns and runs right thru my propery.

it's so clean you could drink it. (I don't though)

and deep so I swim in it on those hot summer days. its great.

I would love a lake too. better.

Actually I think I'd like to have your setup! :)

They dropped the lake level last fall 5 feet for everyone to repair docks & bulkheads, but the rain has been light so far and its still about 3 or 4 feet too low. Low water...no boat. ):

I don't typically vacation at "My" home... too depressing, so much to do that never gets done, However, I always (for the most part) vacation at my parents condo at the beach... which is like a "home".

There I get to relax in my most favorite way... sitting on the beach, reading book after book and consuming Corona's and Margarita's. Pick-up breakfast and lunch at the condo, and dinner out (most nights), plus I can bring my dogs (which I couldn't do on most vacations... Dogs LOVE the beach!)

I'll typically take a week off in the winter for Christmas and stick around Phoenix because of the mild winter here, but come summertime vacation you'd better believe I'm getting out of Dodge.

When it's 115° in the shade, sticking around Phoenix for the summer vacation is just plain nuts. I'll be running up to the high country for some camping and fishing out of our infamous "dry heat".

There are six things to remember about vacations: location, location, location and timing, timing, timing. Phoenix is a great location unless it's like July or August and then you'd be crazy to come here.

Did you buy a model car kit? That's what I would probly do if I had some time off.

I enjoy it...of course, I'll probably enjoy it even more with my new job...My work takes me all over the country, so it's a treat to be home.

Yep, having a great time. Did a "day trip" yesterday to Nawlins so she could experience some great music (Jazz, Blues, Zydaco), great food (gumbo, mudbugs, jambalaya, fresh catfish, fresh gulf shrimp, red beans), and old world charm with the obiglatory stop at "Cafe du Monde" for some chicory and beignets, Burbon Street, Riverwalk, French Quarter, Aquarium of the Americas, etc. All in all, it was an excellent outing.

Oh God, does everything need a slang word?

How about it's really 'I'm just doing what i'd rather be doing'...

I have been all over the world (well, a lot of it) and have loved and enjoyed most places I have been, but I can honestly say: There is no place I would rather be than home.

Indeed.

I've got a Bobcat skid steer getting dropped off tomorrow morning, and a buddy of mine is loaning me an excavator.

I've got about 100 yards of dirt to move and a whole lot of trenches to dig for drainage pipe.

Man I can't wait... :)

LOL... When my mother-in-law retired, she said her ideal retirement would be to give her an empty lot and a small cat with which to dig holes and push piles of dirt around. (You would have had to know her... ;) )

I am inclined to agree~:D

I vacation here as much as a wife with three young uns can. There really IS no vacation from the dishes, the meals, the laundry, but that's ok. I have read about folks who have people in to do these tasks so they can really vacation at home. I can't imagine spending money for something no on can do better than I.

What's a vacation? LOL.

Hubby hasn't had one in years. When he does get the rare holiday off we generally stay home. It's the only way we can get anything done around the house. Even then it's iffy since everyone calls wanting help with their projects.

I have lived in this town for all but 2 years of my life.

When I can, I prefer to GO somewhere. So I will save throughout the year to be able to do just that.

Where I live is great; I hope everyone else comes to the area to visit at some point. But I'm going somewhere else.

That's the problem with retirement... no vacations, not even weekends off.

But the good news is, I get to stay home - where I want to be. ;)

When its not "work", its definitely fun...

I've been at this for a few days now and the back is leaning a bit towards the funky side...the small boulders need to be moved by hand... :)
