Mexico is now claiming there were only 12 deaths. I still can't find a single reliable number on this things mortality rate.

Sorry, I have kids in those germ factories we call schools. I don't have the luxury of not taking possible pandemics seriously.

Can't, wife is majorly opposed to the idea. But we do live in one of the reddest counties in the country and I've taught my kids what indoctrination and bias is and they are on guard against it. They are still in middle school but both are deans list and junior national honor society.

Yep, that is the way it is with a virus, any virus.

And that one was from Mexico, brought here for treatment.
Anyone wonder why all the effort to gin up a panic? This is how many days after the world wide trip to meet with foreign heads of state, including stops in South and Central America?
What great change of health care policy is this administration trying to get through Congress?
Its a scam, a hoo doo, another bug bear to get panicked people to hand over more of their lives to government, to be taken care of at somebody else's expense.

ZOMBIENo really. The "H" stands for hemoglutinin and the "N" stands for neuramidase. These are the two antigentic proteins found in the coat of the infleunza A virus.
So what does the "Z" stand for?
OK. Now I feel like an idiot. The initial link is blocked by my work filter, so I finally looked up H1Z1, and I'm feeling a bit sheepish.

Scientists see this flu strain as relatively mild
Genetic data indicate this outbreak won't be as deadly as that of 1918, or even the average winter.
By Karen Kaplan and Alan Zarembo
April 30, 2009
As the World Health Organization raised its infectious disease alert level Wednesday and health officials confirmed the first death linked to swine flu inside U.S. borders, scientists studying the virus are coming to the consensus that this hybrid strain of influenza -- at least in its current form -- isn't shaping up to be as fatal as the strains that caused some previous pandemics.
In fact, the current outbreak of the H1N1 virus, which emerged in San Diego and southern Mexico late last month, may not even do as much damage as the run-of-the-mill flu outbreaks that occur each winter without much fanfare.
Flu viruses are known to be notoriously unpredictable, and this strain could mutate at any point -- becoming either more benign or dangerously severe. But mounting preliminary evidence from genetics labs, epidemiology models and simple mathematics suggests that the worst-case scenarios are likely to be avoided in the current outbreak.
"This virus doesn't have anywhere near the capacity to kill like the 1918 virus," which claimed an estimated 50 million victims worldwide, said Richard Webby, a leading influenza virologist at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Flu may be echo of 1918 pandemic
By Sharon Kirkey, Canwest News ServiceApril 28, 2009
Ominous similarities exist between the swine flu and the 1918 pandemic virus that killed millions around the globe, from a shared "death profile" of 20-to-40-year-olds to an ability to spread rapidly among humans, experts say.
Some warn the swine flu outbreak has all the hallmarks of a pandemic. Others say it may be no worse than normal flu.
Personally I am going with this part of the article at this point...
Not enough is known about the epidemiology of the swine flu in Mexico to predict how it will unfold globally. How many people have been infected? Who got sick? Did the hardest hit get "super infected," meaning infected with the flu along with another circulating pathogen or bacterium?
Is there something about their genes, or environment that is making Mexicans infected with swine flu appear to be dying at a higher rate than normal with flu?
"We really don't have enough details," says Dr. Mark Loeb, an infectious disease specialist at McMaster University in Hamilton. "But what is apparent is that this virus is spreading rapidly."
At least until I see some reliable numbers out of Mexico from a reputable source that isn't the Mexican government.

Great information, thanks for posting it.
I heard this morning on ABC Good Morning America from the CDC guy that this virus may be like the 1918 flu because it too started LIGHTLY in the springtime so that it could mutate to its full potential for the upcoming flu season in Fall.
So, what this means is this is the "baby" flu, and in fall, the "adult" flu, in full force and strength will be thriving full force.
He said in the fall of 1918 is when the true potential of the virus caused the most deaths and illness.
So, I went to Target this morning to buy some anti-virus hand wipes. None were there. Also, Lysol (which kills virus) is on sale from $5.74 regularly to $3.99 a bottle, only a few cans left.
Looks like the potential danger of this flu (currently) hasn't even yet begun to be realized.

I think some people process information better in this format (not meant in jest, it is a proven fact that many people DON'T learn best by reading, but by hearing/seeing). It is a pretty basic interview (read: not dramatized).
