The company I have worked for for the last 28 years, is closing one of our 3 branches. The one closing is the one where I started and one of my sons still works. There are a few people there who have been with the company even longer than me, so it isn't a good day. 35 years and done.

sorry JimGP, that sucks. so many people losing jobs every day.
and yet, what's a mere $350,000 for the glorification of the Messiah during times of layoffs.
I could live the rest of my life on that money, easily.

I am so sorry Jim. Seeing the same stuff here. Friends losing jobs they have held for over 20 years. I will keep you all in my prayers especially your son.

Thanks folks... I appreciate the comforting words. The branch that is closing is in the San Francisco Bay area, where everything is way too expensive. I worked there for 25 years until we moved to the central valley to open this branch 3 years ago. I was worried about this branch since it is the newest one, but we are also the cheapest one to keep going. I'm worried about one guy in particular... he started working here out of high school and has been here for 32 years. He's never had a job anywhere else, so this will be difficult for him to cope with. My son is young, so he will land on his feet. Thanks again.

First Citizens Bank announced they are closing the oldest of their four branches; that 2-storey building has been used by four different banks (American Bank & Trust, Southern Bank & Trust -- both of which were local banks, First Union -- which left the local market, and now First Citizens, which has been there only four years), and was a half-mile from the former Community Resource Bank (a 21-year old local bank they purchased last year; I had owned interest) location. First Citizens chose to use the more efficient buildings they purchased, and all employees are moving into the new building since they own it.

Just found out that June 30th will be the last day of operation for the Bay Area location. The employees, including my son, have been given the option of staying on, but they would have to move to either Sacramento or Fresno, so I don't envy their decision. A few have homes in the Bay Area that are severely devalued in the face of the economy, so they are really stuck there.

That sucks, but at least it will still be possible for them to continue to have an income and not be stuck jobless.
Have they discussed going in together on a rental apartment to live in during the week?
