Hi folks,

I would appreciate your prayers over the next few weeks. I suffered a mild stroke Friday afternoon. It was mainly my left arm & leg that were affected, and I am back home now. I have gotten most of the mobility back on that side - just trying now to get back up to 100%. I probably won't be online much for the next few days, , but just wanted to mention it.

Good luck wonder, my dad had a TIA about 2 weeks ago. Real scary. Lost all his short term memory for a couple days but its all back. I hope you get everything back to the way it was. Hard work and determination will get you through. Best wishes.

Hello Wonderingrover,

The brain and the mind are very resilient companions. They both have a determination to heal each other. I had a TBI 2 1/2 years ago and I had speech problems that mimicked a stroke. Short term memory was and is still a problem but no where near as bad as what it was. I suppose it matters little how your brain was injured; just know that you can and will be able to overcome all the problems that come with it. Perhaps it's the 'Mind' over 'Matter' analogy. Whatever it is; it (the brain) can and does have its complex ways of getting beyond all of this.

Be as well as you can be and know that you can and will fully recover when that complex mind of yours is vying with that vessel of your brain and they merge back into normalcy at some point.

God bless you, wondering. I'll keep you in my prayers.

There are good folks here in Overcoming Obstacles. Seanchie and jwil are especially familiar with traumatic brain injuries (TBI's), both having had personal up close experiences with them. seanchie got bonked bad on the head 2.5 years ago and jwil's son was shot in the head at Christmas and wasn't expected to live. Mitchell (his son) just went home for good from the hospital this weekend and, like you, is working on "getting back to normal".

You'll find a lot of support and prayers here. Post and update as you can and focus on getting better.

Love and prayers.....

Will do. I hope all of you who have had stroke symptoms get thoroughly checked out. If it was due to a blood clot find out from where, if it wasn't a blood clot, check for things like aneurysms. Having lost my Mom now, I know there is no such thing as a mild stroke. A TIA or a minor bleed could be signs of something worse to come so learn as much as you can now.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the comments and give a brief update. From what I've been told, it looks like mine was caused by a blood clot in one of the smaller arteries in the right rear section of the brain. I found out that since my last physical, I had gone from having Insulin Resistance Syndrome to being fully diabetic - even though I had lost a major amount of weight through diet & exercise. I'm on medication for that now. I can walk without a cane now, so that's a big improvement. I've still got some numbness/weakness in the left hand, so that makes typing a little challenging.

One other side situation with this - unfortunately, my employer was unable to hold my job for me with me having to miss work with this (I was relatively new to this job, after having been laid off from a job of 10+ years). Due to this, I am also looking for employment now - hopefully, I'll be able to find something soon.
