Left you a note explaining what happened along with a phone number, shows up minutes later to write an accident report(all while taking full responsibility) would you not find it in you to thank them, being that most ppl would have just rode off? Keep in mind that the damage was a minimal crack, and ins was covering it.

I'd be bummed about the damage but grateful that they owned up to it.

I have a nasty dent in my trunk lid caused by some jerk who crashed into me while parking in center city Philadelphia, I didn't get a note or anything.

However, when you said 'swiped' I thought 'stolen', and didn't get the post at first.

Very thankful and grateful for the showing of responsibility. Accidents happen all the time. Owning up to them less often.

Very grateful...I've got a fairly good size dent and some white paint on my green pickup truck bed...I was at the Lowe's, came out and there it was...no note, nothing...bastages...not that big a deal if you accept responsibility.

Me too.

If that happened, it's obviously an accident and the person is doing what they can to make it right. I'd thank and forgive them.

If they threw in a box of porn, they'd be my best friend.

Had almost that exact thing happen. Was about four in the morning and the door bell began ringing like crazy. Turned out it was the newspaper delivery lady who had just hit my car parked at the curb. She was incredibly appologetic, had already called the police and had all her insurance info ready. I kept thanking her for being so honest.

Side story: It was a very old Mercedes that I was getting ready to trade in on a truck and all she did was break the headlight, bend the driver's side quarter panel and front bumper a bit. But since it was a Mercedes the repair costs estimates were out of this world. Before she hit the car, I already had a figure in mind of what I was going to get for trade in on it. The $$$ I got from insurance was more than that so I used the cash as a downpayment on a truck and gave the car to charity.

Sitting in the car looking for a soda bottle under the seat when this scraping sound happened.looked up across from a small hippie car with war is not the answer ect bumper stickers all over the back of it. Swiped the whole side of a truck drivers side pulling into a parking space. The guy got out looked got back in and backed out making more damage. I wrote the number of the plate down put it under the wiper. Went into the store to the front desk and was going on about what happened for them call out the trucks plate number when the same guy that hit the truck walked right on by me. I was laughing and telling her "theres the guy who did the deed right there".
They called out the trucks plate number and the woman seen the guy so she said for me to wait because the cops may want my story.. so I went and got my grub was checking out when they asked for me to talk to them.. They had the guy in a cruiser outside and was talking to the truck owner.

Man was the guy who owned the truck mad as all hell. Thought he was going to holler at me at first, but he told me thanks for helping him like that.

I wonder if the guy had been drinking to get arrested?

Why do you ask? Did someone not appreciate it?

Last year I accidently ran into a truck at work while pulling out of a parking space. I just cut too tight to the right. I was driving my husband's huge truck which I am no longer used to driving.

So I went to plant security with his license plate number and had them track him down. He came out and was not pleasant at all. This is a guy that I've work in groups with on and off over the years so I 'sorta' know him.

My insurance repaired his old truck & provided him with a rental while it was worked on.

He's been nothing but rude to me since that time.

So I guess he did not appreciate me doing something similar. You never know how a person will react even when we do the right thing.

I now wish I had just gone my way and not told him.

Well we have a huge van that I rarely drive. The only reason i drove it is b/c my car basically blew the day before. I was sandwiched in between two big trucks as well. I pulled out but didn't drive up far enough before i turned. I caught her front, and my rear. My (side)rear looked worse than her front. I assumed it was a guy, so i went back into the restaraunt and asked just about every guy in uniform(truck had mil stickers) if it was their truck. Long story short, i left a note, and a phone number. She called 20 minutes later in which I returned to the scene within 10 minutes. She kinda had an upitty attitude, and never once said thank's. She was w/ her mom, and her hubby showed up later, they kinda had the same tude. To top it off the cop gives me some vague ticket(only in NY right?!) for not safely pulling out. I think the cop just encouraged me not to be as forthright if it ever happens again. At LEAST the cop thanked me for leaving my info.

You hit her truck, and are now upset because she didn't thank you????

Call me crazy but the easy thing to do would be to drive away. My ins will go up, and it won't cover the damages to my car, only hers. I'd say 90% of ppl would have driven off knowing this. She even made mention that the clerk in the store (while waiting for me,it was a shopping plaza) said that she'd be amazed how often that happens in that parking lot and ppl just drive away. I know *I* would have thanked the person. I would be upset but i would at least acknowledge that they did the right thing.

Why should you feel you should be thanked for something that you should have done? I can see being punished for driving away but leaving "your" info is something "you" should do. You created a financial loss for someone and you should hold yourself responsible because of who you believe yourself to be...period.

Yes, I take FULL responsibility,(never pawned the responsibility off any anyone, just asked a simple question) and btw, it's not a financial loss as she won't have to pay out of pocket. Her truck was a 99 w/ several dents and scratches, one scratch she even tried to pawn off on me. She said it wasn't there before, but I pointed out to her that b/c of the location, there's no way it was done by me. Her mom and hubby agreed. I wasn't expecting her to bow down and kiss my feet. I guess I just have high expectations when it comes to manners or whatever. Just b/c *I* would say thank you for leaving the info, doesn't mean others would.

I understand how you feel about this. Seems that you got a similar reaction to the one I got last year. It's not praise or great thanks that are in order, but instead to be treated politely and without the almost accusatory edge.

Funny you posted this. Im at a trade show right now in NC, yesterday when I went out to the parking lot someone had pulled too far forward and parked up against the rear bumper of my rental creasing the bumper. I took pictures and got the plate number and left my business card on the car with a note asking them to contact me.

Well needless to say, I never got the call. I guess Ill be handing over the plate number to the rental company on Thursday when I return the car.

I wasn't referring to you taking responsibility...you obviously have done that and my compliments for being forthwright.

We live in a world where people with bad credit, can buy a house they can't afford, legislated by our government and the delinquincy paid for by us taxpayers. I doubt we'll hear a thank you for that either.
