First thing: there is a movie coming out soon that, as far as I can tell, is about mankind trying to eradicate an intelligent species on an inhabitable planet so they can colonize it. I guess they don't want to give up what they see as the element of surprise or risk being rejected. Apparently the human planet is a goner, and the remaining part of the species has been going through space looking for a new home... but they are running out of time...

Second thing: somewhere, I read something that basically said ... if we find there is life on Mars, even just the most very primitive forms of life... Mars should be left to the Martians.

What do y'all say (both of 'em)?

It's a fairly hackneyed premise, but being a sci-fi fan, I'll probably watch it.

If it's primitive life, and it would have to be, I would say no problem. It is doubtful that we could exterminate a primitive life form simply by colonizing the planet.

That life form, if it exists, would be very similar to the extremophilic life forms we have here on earth. We have not been able to exterminate them in all this time.

We have not been able to exterminate them in all this time.Sure, but what about the risk of substantially altering its path (worse, better, who knows)? Or you talking about just colonizing where they aren't (since so far it appears, if anything exists... I guess not widespread)... keeping away from them and them away from us (considering radical difference in important time scales)?

Doubtful that it will happen.

If it's a primitive life form, it would be very difficult to alter it's path. We could make it extinct, if we changed the landscape radically. What is known at this point about Mars tells us that if life exists, it's primitive and confined to the ice or possible water. I doubt we'd be able to irradicate the ice and water from Mars.

We have life forms on this planet that will likely be very similar to any life found on Mars. We have simple life forms in some of the hottest hot springs, the coldest ice, and the highest pressures. It will be life forms similar to that that will be on Mars and they are surviving despite our presence here.

Humans on this planet are so at war with themselves, aliens would rally the world to murder 'em.

We should ban space travel, especially to anywhere that might support life, even amoebic life. Humans will find some way to **** it up.

1. Will there be an alien Will Smith just waiting to kick human-invader butt?

2. I say we negotiate with intelligent life if we need to occupy their planet. Mars? Nah, I say we set up shop, let the primitive microorganisms fend for themselves.

Simple - we'll just use the Genesis Device on them. Problem solved.

I'd prefer we use the Omega 13.

Do you know if giving them that fish oil will give the same healthy heart results it has in humans?

Well, in a sense yes. But you know the old addage about too much of a good thing. In this case it was TERRIBLY bad for the aliens because they had three hearts. When fed the Omega 13 all three hearts became so healthy and pumped so much blood, they literally exploded like their predecessors listening to Slim Whitman tunes.

If you read the fine print, you will see that fish oil is the leading cause of death among alien species invading our planet. We can only assume it will have the same affect on their own planet when we invade.

That'll be, "The Battle for Terra" which opens May 1st. It makes us appear like the aliens in Independence day, except for one good humanoid.

Only if the US is left to its citizens.

We get Mars and they get Uranus.
