Yup. I had a 1960 bus, a 1965 Karmann Ghia, a 1968 Karmann Ghia and a 1973 Pop-top Bus. Great commercials back then.

... which reminds me of a parody print ad that appeared in National Lampoon magazine back in the mid-70's...

which had a picture of a Volkswagen

floating on the surface of a lake...

and a caption that read:

"If Ted Kennedy had been driving a Volkwagen,

he'd be president today."

Ghias are the greatest little sport VW I used to always drive one my daddy worked on them for resale and I had several different models the best was a convertible yellow 2 speed stick automatic with a clutch

I had an old VW bug back in the 70's. It was so old it still had a 6-volt electrical system. But the little beetle was practically indestructible. Used to take it through the deep woods in east Texas and it was almost as good as a truck at takin' a lickin'.

The ad copy reads:

This Volkswagen missed the boat.
The chrome strip on the glove compartment is blemished and must be replaced. Chances are you wouldn't have noticed it; Inspector Kurt Kroner did.
There are 3,389 men of our Wolfsburg factory with only one job; to inspect Volkswagens at each stage of production. (3,00 Volkswagens are produced daily; there are more inspectors than cars.)
Every shock absorber is tested (spot checking won't do), every windshield is scanned. VWs have been rejected for surface scratches barely visible to the eye.
Final inspection is really something! VW inspectors run each car off the line onto the Funktionsprüfstand (car test stand), tote up 189 check points, gun ahead to the automatic brake stand and say "no" to one VW out of fifty.
This preoccupation with detail means the VW lasts longer and requires less maintenance, by and large, than other cars. (It also means a used VW depreciates less than any other car.)
We pluck the lemons; you get the plums.

I had an old blue and white 64 ghia with a 6 volt engine, I drove me and my girlfriend down south in it one summer to visit family and vacation, we stayed on ocracoke, when I came back to my moms I left it in her backyard and rode back to NY with her and my brother and my girlfriend she got tired of it sitting in the yard and sold it cheap:((
