I think Burris and Gillibrand are both in more trouble in a primary situation than they would be in a general election.

Mid-term elections historically have low turn out. If Republicans/Conservatives show up in large numbers, there could be a hugh turn over for Republicans. In areas where Republicans know they don't stand a chance, they could help to unseat Democrats by voting for their Democrat opposition in the primaries.

Every incumbent Democratic candidate will be re-elected by an even larger margin than before.
Democrats will pick up several more seats and become much more powerful than at the present time.

Agreed. Same with Specter, if the money goes against him. I should have been more clear.
And, I'm going against the grain on Thune, but I don't think the situtation's any better there than it was in '04.

Excellent Point! I encourage everyone to do that!
Also, donate money to the GOP and the candidates-and not just in your state-if you have the means.

The recession will most definitely be a thing of the past by next November, its just the cycle and how things go.
The Democrats, rightly or wrongly will take all the credit for it.
The Republicans will continue to be blamed for the recent recession and unless they can pull it together and do more legislating and less tea partying they will be toast.
There still is time, but the GOP needs to get in the game if they want to get the credit for the final score.
And I mean this sincerely, despite or because of Obama's policies the US Economy will return soon. It is just a natural cycle but it can be worsened with poor policy. The Dems are going to take all the credit and the GOP has to start thinking about the inevitability of the US economic machine. Its just too resillient to stay down for long.

With maybe the possible exception of Tom Coburn, every seated member of the senate and house should be sent home permanently. Both sides have lost touch with the people they were hired to represent.

Since I was only about 7 at the time, can someone explain to me the method with which the GOP took back control in 1994? And, how likely is that to happen in 2010?

In the Senate
In 1994 - 21 of the 33 Seats up for election were Democrat.
In 1994 - 8 of the Democratic seats up for election were vacant.
In 1994 - 2 Democratic Senators switched parties.
In 2010 - 15 of the 33 Seats up for election are Democrats.
In 2010 - 1 of the Democratic seats up for election isvacant. 7 Republican seats are vacant.

Thanks. So essentially, in '94 the deck was stacked against the Dems, while in '10 it appears to be more of the opposite.

Yes. The Republicans will have the first chance to gain seats in 2012, which will be heavily Democrats up for election. Outside of a miracle, the Republicans will lose seats in '10.

I'm hoping for at least...Pelosi, Reid, Boxer, Stark, Murtha, Hastings, Lee, and about 2 dozen more of those who have hijacked the Democrat party.

I agree clowns like Pelosi probably are safe. However, I could see Reid(in addition to others who certainly will-such as Dodd) losing in 2010. I posted a link earlier on this thread regarding Reid. The thing about Reid is Nevada is a Republican state, Vegas is generally republican, as a most of the big casino and entertainment guys there-so I could see them bankrolling a Republican to defeat that schmuck Reid.

The republicans face a real uphill climb in the Senate in 2010. The dems for the most part have safe (red) seats to defend. The repubs (Spector and McCain) face tough primaries and have some difficult turf to defend in Kentucky, Ohio and Florida. It would be an upset if the dems did NOT get over the magic number of 60 in the Senate. The House will likely stay about the same. Obama and the dems are getting the benefit of the doubt until 2012 and then people will pass judgement.

Tsk, tsk. He who cannot express himself without resorting to name calling and spluttering generally indicates a lack of vocabulary.
And I didn't say I would type it 500 times -- I said I would type "I am wrong 500 times." ... one time.

His once stellar popularity has taken a dive. I think it's an open seat, at this point. Maybe if Reno runs, it'll be guaranteed GOP, but otherwise, I think the Dems can spend money and make it pay for them.

If you the people will join me on the peoples party I am going to run on for Illinois congressman we can take back america. All we have to do is upset the balance so neither party can steam roll things thru congress. Now stop and think, if we could just get a hand full of independants elected and a handfull of peoples party elected WALA We the people have the power. Will we make the change YES WE WILL all members who voted for the AIG and stimulus bailout should be voted out of office
