If anyone has any knowledge, which can be conveyed in simple standard English (as opposed to geekspeak), I would appreciate it. Here's the problem: DSL provider is Verizon. Two e-mail accounts, Hotmail (had for several years) and Yahoo (had for several months). Three weeks ago, I became aware of the fact that I was not receiving certain e-mails to either account. The senders all end in companyname.com (three different companies). They e-mail a working partner, who also uses Hotmail but not Verizon, and myself - the working partner receives her e-mails, I don't. Prior to three weeks ago, these e-mails did appear in my inboxes - for some reason, they are now blocked or filtered. All of these particular senders were and are on my contacts lists. Other e-mails, from individuals as well as junk, are getting through.
Verizon says it is not a Verizon issue.

Check and make sure that you are not filtering out emails from companyname.com. Also check your spam folders and see if they have been put in there. I don't use either hotmail or yahoo, so I cant tell you how to do this.
Thank you Troops

More than likely it is not Verizon's problem because all they provide is the internet access not your email. I would contact hotmail or Yahoo to see if they can send you some information on how to check to see if they are blocked somehow. You can also create a new email address and see if that fixes it, if that is a possibility.

Doesn't sound like it would be a Verizon issue. Check the spam filter settings and allow all e-mails from companyname.com and that should take care of it.

The ONLY way Verizon might be involved in this is if the emails were actually being sent to a Verizon email account and then forwarded to your hotmail or yahoo account. You probably would have had to set this up in the first place (so if this doesn't sound familiar, it is probably not the case).
It is more likely a configuration problem regarding spam or filtering rules with hotmail or yahoo. It could also be a configuration problem regarding spam or filtering rules at the sender. Or it could be they're just not sending it to you.
If you've set your email up in outlook, I highly recommend going to webmail interfaces for hotmail and yahoo to check on your settings.

Disable the spam filter.
Then you will have narrowed down the problem.

At my work we were having a similar problem reaching anyone with a Yahoo email. It was on Yahoo's end and our IT dept worked for a few days with them to solve the problem.

Thanks so much for all suggestions! I had a lovely conversation with someone from Verizon and am working with both Hotmail and Yahoo. Just strange that until about 3 weeks ago, these addresses were not being filtered - if that's what's happening. I still do get the normal volume of mail informing me that I ought to be drinking acai juice, extending my car's warranty and taking custody of the 850,000,000 that is being held in trust for me if I will only send a $250 handling fee.

Email providers change their parameters regularly as spam evolves and becomes more sophisticated.
