If the highest elected post in the Government can be limited to 2 terms why cant the House and Senate also have limits set? With no limits, all we see are the "career" politicians - some that have been there so long that they dont even remember what it is like to be like us ordinary folks!!!

Preaching to the choir.
Some believe our term limits are our rights to vote out the bums at each election cycle and I don't disagree as long as the populace exhibits some kind of intelligence in voting and we know that is not going to happen.
Left or Right, it makes no difference. Anyone in Washington more than 2 terms becomes corrupted by the system and the power they obtain.
Why else would these folks spend millions on campaigns to earn $150K a year when the majority could make more in the private sector? Love of public service and wanting to make a difference? I believe thats how they start out but after 2 terms its about keeping power.

I'm all for term limits... up until I run across a really good legislator (yes, they do exist) and then I want that legislator to hang around a bit.
So. I'm torn.

People who believe in Term Limits do not believe in Democracy.

Double edged sword. Weeds out the bad ones but also forces the good ones out too. Democracy is supposed to take care of that. But anymore it's pretty much a pipedream to think the electorate is smart enough to know the difference.

That sort of reasoning is exactly what nudges a nation toward dictatorship -- and the monarchy we fought so hard from which to escape.

What? Admitting that term limits bite both ways or the fact that most voters dont take the time to actually learn something about a candidate before they vote?
Other than what CNN tells them, that is.

So why is it that everybody else does what CNN tells them ... but you're so smart you don't?
That's what I mean. You have no faith in Democracy.
You're ready to accept a dictatorship because you think the majority of your countrymen are dumber than you.
Does that sound like what George Washington and so many others fought and died for?
No, I don't take what talking heads tell me as fact. I find out for myself. And my faith in democracy is less now than it's ever been because too many vote for "what's in it for them" instead of what's good for the Republic. Stupid voters are why we are headed for a dictatorship. The "I won't have to worry about putting gas in my car, I won't have to worry about paying my mortgage" crowd comes to mind.
None of the Founders and Patriots in America since made any of the sacrifices they did for that line of thinking.

I know what you mean. But we also already have a form of term limits. They are called "elections."

Before we get ahead of ourselves. We've gotta get pased the first step and I don't see any possibility of this. A constitutional amendment requires...
1) A proposal by2/3 of BOTH Houses - which would never happen because it is never going to be in their interests under any circumstance.
2) A proposal by 2/3 of the legislatures of several states. Then a ratifiaction process, that you can bet will be lobbied to death. Very difficult process.
It seems we're powerless as the American public on this particular issue. For now, vote against the incumbent every time.

Not to mention Julio. "Thank you for taking time out of your day Mr. President ... I been working the same job for 4 years..." etc. (quote is not exact). Scary that this guy is part of the gene pool.
It goes beyond stupid. It's like a cult. People (or should I say zombies) are treating this guy like a rock star... but unlike Jim Jones, they've WILLINGLY taken the Kool-Aid and are coming back for more...

I am against term limits. Telling the government that you are either too stupid, ignorant, or apathetic to do your job as an employer of this Republic, is not the kind of message to send to big government. Start doing your job, instead of looking for government to wipe your butts.

So you believe that during -- and immediately following -- the American Revolution greedy people didn't exist in our country?
No, greedy people didn't exist until 1993.
Don't argue with idiots, they will drag you down to their level and beat you.
