Apparently a Union Soldier absconded with the book 145 years ago. At a dollar a day, the fees added up to 50,000 bucks. :))

The library waived the fee! :mrgeen:

My neck of the woods.

Apparently, Seinfeld episodes are becoming reality. Would anyone like to join me in starting a business that only sells the tops of muffins?

Can you imagine what that book is worth now?

As an asside, my mother once owned a first edition of Uncle Tom's Cabin. Then while getting a house ready to move in, she stored all her things in a barn and the barn burned down, including all Uncle Tom's Cabin. :(

Broke my heart.

Rare first editions can be a great investment, to a point. The demand is limited to only a few folks willing to invest in them, but those few are willing to throw down some serious whip out when they find a book that they want.
