Right now, as I type this, I am in the process of making some scam telemarketers VERY angry.
Periodically, I get these calls that offer to lower my credit card rates. They are scams.
This time I was not doing anything so I decided to stay on the line and not say anything.....
Guess What?
THEY CAN'T HANG UP!
LMAO... :D
Every time they answer, I remain silent. After a few seconds they hang up their extension and in about 30 seconds someone else gets the call.
Then they send me to a fake "your call did not go through" recording which plays 2 times... I am supposed to hang up, but I don't.
Now it is really starting to bug them... I've even been cursed.
This is fun....
I could leave the line open for hours.
REVENGE!!
I will update if anything good happens...

Good idea!
I like to pretend I'm an old man who can't hear very well. I constantly ask them to repeat what they are saying over and over and over...LOL.

I wasn't aware their phone systems worked like that! I usually go the opposite route - telling jokes and trying to make them laugh and end the call on good terms. Maybe I'm too eager to please people, and I'm sure it's just as frustrating to not make a sale even if the person is nice, but it makes me feel oddly good about myself.

I'll have to try that one. I'm always getting calls about lowering my credit card rates - of course they don't know I maintain a zero balance on my one card, extending my vehicle warranty - I lease, or tech support on my computer.
I usually just scream really loudly into the phone.

Here's a messed up thing to do to Telemarketers:
TM: Hi, Is Mr. Jones there?
You: Uhm, do you have some business with Mr. Jones?
TM: Well, I uh..
You: Because I am Sheriff Watson. Mr. Jones was murdered this morning and his house is a crime scene. If you have business with him, then I'm going to need you to stay on the line and give us information. Don't try hanging up because your location is being tracked.
TM: :frown:

I just breath heavy and ask them what they are wearing. It is simple but effective.

I have done that - just laid the receiver down and gone on with my work.
The other day I got one of those scam e-mails, how I had a million dollars ready to be transferred to my account if I just sent a $250 processing fee. I was very tempted to reply that they should deduct the $250 from my fund and send the rest along, but I refrained.

I had a guy call asking for donations to help pay for bullet proof vest for the local sheriff's department a couple of months back. I asked him why he didn't get a real job instead of trying to scam people over the phone and he just hung up on me.

Do not disturb.
Best $3 a month you'll ever spend.
When activated, your phone does not ring. Callers are routed to voice mail or simply hung up on after a message plays stating you do not wish to be disturbed (there are 3 pre-recorded messages to choose from). You can also program it to be automatically activated on certain days at certain times, turn it on for a set number of hours, or on until you turn it off.
You can program in numbers you wish to ring through (up to 20 of them) or you can give those people a 4 digit password they can enter while the message plays so that their call comes through.
I don't have any numbers programmed in; I chose to give my father and my daughter the password, and they know if they hear the message to ask themselves, "do I really want to wake her up???"
Awesome service ;)

While cell phones don't get too much of this crap...yet. I have special ringtones for everyone I deem important...I like "take this job and shove it" thats for when work calls!

Thats great, I am going to do that. We do have a home phone for the fax machine but we never answer it when it rings, I might have to do that now.
