White House asked university to cover symbol
Thursday, April 16, 2009
http://www.thomasmore.org/graphics/sb_thomasmore/imag292.jpgNBC Washington Reports: "Amidst all of the American flags and presidential seals, there was something missing when President Barack Obama gave an economic speech at Georgetown University this week -- Jesus.
The White House asked Georgetown to cover a monogram symbolizing Jesus' name in Gaston Hall, which Obama used for his speech, according to CNSNews.com."

So?

I wonder why the White House asked for the symbols etc. to be obscured?

Where is the transparency?

If they found them to be a distraction could they not have chosen a different venue for the Obama campaign speech?

Who cares. Not likely Jesus would want to be a part of all this political mumbo jumbo anyway. Jesus is in the soul-saving business and not political business.

The image was blocked out since the Obama is the one and only true Messiah.

With all due respect, that you don't care does not mean that others do not care.

I care enough to want an answer why they asked for the symbols to be covered.

There obviously was a reason so what was it?

If they hide a small thing what else is the "most transparent administration" hiding.

Kerry spoke in Gaston Hall yet there was no mention he asked for a Jesus black out.

Al Gore spoke in Gaston Hall but I found no mention he asked for a Jesus black out.

President Bush spoke in Gaston Hall but no mention of blacking out Jesus.

Why now?

Is the administration ashamed of being seen with those symbols in the picture?

Do you think that Jesus' image in the backbround would have changed the contents of the speech? What I disagreed with was the contents of the speech and that is my point. Would you feel differently about Obama or the speech with Jesus in the background?

Are they ashamed? I dunno

Yes and?

That doesn't answer why did the White House ask for the symbols to be covered?

If he didn't want to be seen with them why not choose a different non religious symbol rich venue?

No I don't but it seems the White House must have thought the symbols would.

Why?

That is all I am asking.

Okay.

To me the symbols are not relevant to his words, especially with the themes in the stained glass windows.

What has piqued my interest is why the White House had issues with the covered symbols.

Are they ashamed? I dunno

Neither do I, but now that they did that I want the answer.

The 'IHS' is a reference to Jesus name and part of the Georegetown logo.

The White House felt that displaying the university's logo would be unfair and appear to many to be an endorsement of the university.

That is what the whtie House said anyway.

Were I the President of Georgetown: 1) Obama would not be speaking there for any reason, and 2) I would have told him to kiss my red American .... boot.

If its a choice between displaying the Name of Christ and having the President speak at my university I would have to wish him luck elsewhere.

Do you have a link or specific place I can find the White House statement?

I recall either Meese or Ashcroft negleted to cover the statue's boob thereby tripling Janet Jackson's superbowl outrage.
