They looked at a couple of public schools for the girls if I remember right. However I think it was secret service issues that kept them from choosing a public school. Not to mention when you have 2 kids who are at the ages they are, where they might be in 2 different schools in a year or two anyway, it makes more sense to have them both in the same school, and saves Secret Service manpower.

And they may not have been able to find a rescue dog that Malia wasn't allergic to. It would have been nice had they been able to rescue a dog, but when you have a child with allergies, its just not possible sometimes.

Was there a time limit that said the rescue dog had to be available right away? They couldn't have kept looking until the right one came along?? And with allergies...there is no such thing as a "hypoallergenic" dog. Yes, Portuguese Water Dogs are not prone to shedding, however it's not dog hair that people develop allergies to. It's the dander on the skin and the dog saliva. Even hairless dogs have dander and saliva, so there is no guarantee that Malia won't be allergic to this dog. Also, it's possible that she may live with the dog for awhile and be okay and then develop a sensitivity to the dog.

I really don't know what prompted this decision. I can't read President Obama's mind, that's for sure. But whatever the reason, they have the puppy those little girls were promised. My point is that it's stupid for someone in the public eye to make a statement about getting a rescue dog before they are sure that is what they are doing. It makes them look untrustworthy and dishonest. I'm not saying that everyone should get only rescue dogs or that there is anything wrong with not...but when you live in the public eye you need to watch what you say when you are not sure you will follow through.
