If other large hotel chains follow suit, this could be the end of USA Today...

Good riddance. I can tell you at least five USA Today papers hit my trash can each week. Now I know at least Marriott will stop delivering them.

They're not doing it for the environment, they're doing it to cut costs.

And at a lot (if not all) of Mariott's hotels that serve complementary breakfast, the newspapers are to be had in the service areas anyways.

Marrriott is more interested the the PR angle here than anything else.

Celebrity "News" is the bane of my existence.

Why would you want a US company to fail?

You cons are a strange bunch.

Um, did you read the article?

Marriott's move may hurt the newspaper business, but the company expects it will be good for the environment -- something that many corporations are touting to gain a competitive edge and show their commitment to a "greener" world.

AND

As for its own cost savings, they are not material, Hampton said. She said Marriott pays far less than the cover price for its newspapers because of the numbers it buys companywide. "However, since the quantity went down, the cost per paper went up.

The Residence Inn and Fairfield Inn are the only Marriott brands that serve a complimentary breakfast. The Courtyards and Full Service hotels do not have the comp breakfast.

That Mariott mentioned that they expect this move to be good for the environment is plain old PR.

BTW....Do you know which hotel chain has the tightest, most frequent, and landfill filling-uppiest room remodeling specs of them all??

That's right......Mariott.

Do you believe every bit of PR that companies put out there no matter how unbelievable it is?

USA Today is owned by Gannett Newspapers and they own many other papers. If USA fails, they won't go out of business.

Unlike the bailout monkeys, I have no desire to artificially resuscitate failures.
