A Saudi judge has refused for a second time to annul a marriage between an 8-year-old girl and a 47-year-old man, a relative of the girl told CNN.
The girl's father, according to the attorney, arranged the marriage in order to settle his debts with the man, who is "a close friend" of his. At the time of the initial verdict, the judge required the girl's husband to sign a pledge that he would not have sex with her until she reaches puberty, al-Jutaili told CNN. The judge ruled that when the girl reaches puberty, she will have the right to request a divorce by filing a petition with the court, the lawyer said.

Of course the court okayed it.
Muhammad took a six year old as a wife.
He consummated the marriage when she was nine.

So basically this 'father' saw his daughter as property to be traded to pay off debt. And of course the Saudi courts will up hold it. There is nothing in Shari'ah law or the Qur'an that forbids this. Instead it's accepted practice.
As long as they are 'married' it's just fine. :wall::wall:

And our ancestors in Europe did the same... kids were betrothed at birth or at a very young age. And girls often got the older, limper end of the deal. Conjugal sex didn't begin until she was a woman, when she had her menses, but for some, that meant 11 or 12.
This isn't new... it's yucky but it isn't new.

See? Legalized marriage to children can happen in the absence of gay marriage.

People have done horrible things to each other in the name of social norms since the dawn of time. It does not mean that we, as a world community, should just accept it. There are human rights organizations trying to put the heat on places of Saudi to get them to stop hurting children this way. I support their efforts 100% and will take very opportunity to speak out about it.
I will not take your approach... that oh well it's always been this way. Some body else used to do it too.

I agree with Gabby here.
Simply b/c people have committed such acts in the past is no reason to excuse it away in present day.
Theres such a thing as learning from the past and evolving as humans.
I can never accept having a child marry an adult. Thats just wrong on so many levels and Im well away that back in the day this was common even during biblical times.
Doesnt mean that I have to agree with it or except it, I wholeheartedly support as a people we do our best to not allow such to occur and speak out against it when it does occur.

I'm sorry... But when did we start comparing the United States of America to Middle Eastern dictatorships?

Sounds like Saudi Arabia needs to redefine marriage.
