"Still He Walked"
He could hear the crowds screaming "crucify" "crucify"...
He could hear the hatred in their voices,
These were his chosen people.
He loved them,
And they were going to crucify him.
He was beaten, bleeding and weakened...
His heart was broken,
But still He walked.
He could see the crowd as he came from the palace.
He knew each of the faces so well.
He had created them.
He knew every smile, every laugh, and every shed tear,
But now they were contorted with rage and anger
His heart broke,
But still He walked.
Was he scared? You and I would have been
So his humanness would have mandated that he was.
He felt alone.
His disciples had left, denied, and even betrayed him.
He searched the crowd for a loving face and he saw very few.
Then he turned his eyes to the only one that mattered
And he knew that he would never be alone.
He looked back at the crowd...
At the people who were spitting at him
Throwing rocks at him and mocking him
And he knew that because of him,
They would never be alone.
So for them, He walked.
The sounds of the hammer striking the spikes echoed through the crowd.
The sounds of his cries echoed even louder,
The cheers of the crowd, as his hands and feet were nailed to the cross,
Intensified with each blow.
Loudest of all was the still small voice
Inside his Heart that whispered "I am with you, my son",
And God's heart broke.
He had let his son walk.
Jesus could have asked God to end his suffering,
But instead he asked God to forgive.
Not to forgive him, but to forgive the ones who were persecuting him.
As he hung on that cross, dying an unimaginable death,
He looked out and saw, not only the faces in the crowd,
But also, the face of every person yet to be,
And his heart filled with love.
As his body was dying, his heart was alive.
Alive with the limitless, unconditional love he feels for each of us.
That is why He walked.
When I forget how much My God loves me,
...I remember his walk.
When I wonder if I can be forgiven,
...I remember his walk.
When I need reminded of how to live like Christ,
...I think of his walk.
And to show him how much I love him,
...I wake up each morning, turn my eyes to him,
......And I walk.

"Still He Walked"
He could hear the crowds screaming
As their sins He was redeeming
He could hear the hatred in their voices,
These were the people of his choice
He told them that He loved them,
And they were going to crucify him.
He was beaten, weakened...bleeding
As His Father He was heeding
His heart it was just brakeing,
He was His Life forsakeing
With His Father He talked
But still He walked.
From the palace He walked
With the people He had taught
He knew each of the faces so well.
Oh the stories they could tell
The Father's celebration
The Crown of creation
He knew every laugh, and every shed tear, and every smile,
He knew them from the beginning and with every walked mile
Now the faces were contorted with anger and with rage
Thank God His spoken Words were written down on page
A broken heart
A spearmans dart
With them He'd talked
But still He walked.
Would you be scared?
Would another have dared
Could another have cared
Such a Blessing to have shared
Thy sins are forgiven thee
Because He hung upon the tree
He arose again
Free from sin
Death defeated
Sin deleted
The Kingdom He taught has been bought
And reserved for all
That answer the call
that's as far as I got
You and I would have been
So his humanness would have mandated that he was.
He felt alone.
His disciples had left, denied, and even betrayed him.

"Still He Walked"
here is the rest of the poem I will try to put it together
You and I would have been
Bearing the world's sin
Because He was a man
According to God's plan
He was scared and all alone
As our sin He did atone
Even His disciples had left, denied, betrayed
Of course he was afraid
In the crowd he sought
A loveing face He thought
Alas their were but few
Who remained ever true
His eyes turned toward the One
Who had called him Beloved Son
And he knew that he would never be alone.
For He was returning home
Into the crowd he gazed
As His senses became dazed
The people through their rocks
With their words He was mocked
He knew if not for Him
They would ever live in sin
They would never be alone
To His Father they'd be known
Just for them He talked
So for them, He walked.
The anquish of the spikes
The sound of hammers strikes
Echoed through the crowd
As His cries echoed loud
To the cross He was nailed
As the crowd cheered and railed
Growing louder with each blow
How little did they know
And he knew that because of him,
The still small voice within
Was louder than the din
It whispered in His heart
I knew you from the start
"I am with you my Son"
For you are the Saving One
the heart of God then broke
As with His son he spoke
And even as He talked
He had let His Son walk.
Jesus could have plead
As His wounds slowly bled
The suffering to end
The angels to send
He asked God to forgive
That all the world might live
In the presence of the Lord
As promised by His word
His persecutors He forgave
The sinner's He would save
He hung upon the tree
Dying for you and me
When He looked about
He saw without a doubt
not only faces He could see
But the face of all yet to be
Love then filled his heart
For though he was to part
His liveing heart stayed true
As He died for me and you
For love this was done
For each and every one
This is what He taught
That is why He walked
When I forget how much My God loves me,
...I remember his walk.
When I wonder if I can be forgiven,
...I remember his walk.
When I need reminded of how to live like Christ,
...I think of his walk.
And to show him how much I love him,

I went to a funeral yesterday for the father of a dear friend of mine.
Like blazer and free, this man also had the gift for writing poetry ... he wrote a poem a few years ago that the Pastor and the family thought appropriate for his own funeral....
"Then Came Jesus"

"Then Came Jesus"
When I was young, and still quite shy,
I spent my time like a butterfly.
I flitted here and flitted there,
And burned the days without a care.
Then came Jesus with arms open wide.
He took my sins and gave me life.
He loved me so.
As I grew and followed Him,
I became a man and lost sight of Him.
Then satan came and blinded me
With money and pleasure.
I couldn't see
the path that Jesus laid out for me.
I drank and ate and had great fun,
but then a cloud slipped over the Son.
The days grew dark, and the nights were black,
and I wished the Son would come back.
The money was gone and the fun
I wished for death - but it wouldn't come,
and still - no sight of the Son.
I fell on my knees and prayed
Lord forgive me for having strayed.
Bring back the joy we had once more,
and make things like they were before.
Then came Jesus with arms open wide,
And held me close to his side.
He loves me so.
As I grew old and dim of eye
I prepared for this body do die.
As death drew near my body to claim,
I just kept whispering His name.
Then came Jesus with arms open wide,
Like eagles we flew up to the sky,
and I'll live forever with Him I know.
He loves me so.
