This is my first op-ed, so please bear with me. I have read and heard time and again that nobody ever offers a viable alternative to the Liberal agenda that has overtaken this country. My ideas have often gotten lost in the shuffle of partisan bickering and argument that so often grips the discussion groups. I would like to take some time to list my ideas and elaborate on them a bit more, as I believe they offer a solution to this country that few politicians are willing to discuss. It is my intent to offer up some simple, common sense solutions that are too often bound by agendas that only serve to hurt this country. I have seen far too many people throw up their hands and say that all hope is lost, I will disagree. It's going to take putting the country on a household budget to make things right again.

- 3% reduction in all government programs (overseas support/ military/ social programs) annually. Everyone has pet projects that they feel are more important than the next, but we all must sacrifice the size of these to get the government back into a manageable size. The reason for the 3% is that it will take time and dedication to get the ball rolling. It's easy to throw millions of dollars away at various projects, it's much harder to take that growth away when it is there. The beauty of this point is that it will get easier every year it is in action. That 3% is a smaller number every time it is utilized. One presidential term of 4 years could lower the national budget by a very large sum. It might not be popular and it might be painful, but it's the right thing to do.

-5% reduction in capital gains tax to spur on investment. I have played in the stock market since before I can remember and the best growth tends to happen when businesses are free to do what they need to succeed. This reduction will yield massive tax revenues to pay for the financial mess that we are in now.

-Retain the Bush tax cuts. This was a step in the right direction, but it really needed to be enacted with point one to really make a difference. It was originally a political ploy, but it could really help out middle America if instituted properly.

- Tit for Tat trade balance. We will no longer stand for severe trade inbalances with foreign countries, if they want to play in our country they have to let us play in their's. It is uncommon to see American cars in Japan. This is due to a staunch national loyalty that the Japanese people have that is combined with stiff tariffs on our imported vehicles. This point has the intention of bringing jobs and companies back to America and to make a world economy fair. We need to take the pressure off of American companies and start turning it on to foreign countries.

-Start cutting back foreign military installations, I'm sure Germany and Japan have learned their lessons by this point. Most of the flashpoints in today's world have coast lines and can be reached by the Navy, I believe in a strong presence in international waters. These countries can do just fine without our intervention, if they want our assistance, we may then begin to act.

Long term solutions will start short term gains. Banks will start lending again when they see that the government is attempting to help them without standing in the way.
